18ft devlin scaup?

Has anyone here built the new 18ft version? Man that looks like a beast and just what I am looking for. Might have to find the time to build myself a boat. I would love to see some pictures of the 18ft model in action showing the room inside etc. I love the looks of the scaup and an 18ft model would be perfect for me.

I am not sure what the "NEW" Honker is. I made mine in 2006. I modified mine to have 27" Gunnels...91" at the beam, and 19'3".... the top deck and interior layout is a bit modiefied as well. My 60 HP Yamaha will push it at 30 mph.

Phil, this is a new design of the Scaup, not the Honker. It is much bigger than the others, has some different design aspects too. I don' tknow of any that have been built.

am I completely missing something, I thought Eric's boat that he detailed the building of was an 18' scaup.

Eric's boat was 16 foot I believe. I know there was a guy building a 21' out of aluninum, and I thought there was someone making an 18 footer out of wood...or there was a member who knew a guy...or something like that...

Geeze Chuck, teach a man to fish...

Eric's was the original 16, the Eric B aluminum 21 is a scaled up of that design. The new 18 (which I haven't seen the plans or one built) has a number of features that the rest of the duckboats don't - it is a self bailer and it has some sort of integrated longitudinal boxes that serve some sort of structural function. The new 18 is a much more massive boat.

Actually it was Neil with the welded 21 footer. The thread I remembered was a guy about 6 months ago who had bought plans for the 18. Didn't find it he had started it yet

Yes, you are right, Neil is Eric's son.

There are pictures of the blind up.... they are on page two of the photobucket link. I used a 600 denier over 1.25" galv pipe

I don't use the blind 95% of the time....

Phil I've always loved the looks of your boat. Do you have any more pictures of your blind from the inside? Is it just made of condiut?

Tony,
I have a larger version of the scaup. I don't know anything about the 18', but they are fun boats in general. There are some things I might do differently if I were to build another, but that's probably the case with any build.

I can try to take some pictures if you are interested.

Pat, I used 1 1/4" galv pipe...like used for chain link fencing... I used Keyclamps to keep in place . I think those are the only pics of th inside of the blind

Neil ,

You really need to post up some pics of the largest Scaup on the face of the earth !!! I hope all is well with you and dad
