Sunfish project is underway

Picked up the boats last wednesday and finally got a chance to work on them. We stripped the accesories off the hull and then took the top off. After that we removed most of the foam from the front. Still need to remove the cockpit, does anyone have any advice on what to do there?

It must be the summer of sunfish conversions...as far as removing the cockpit, I'd say the cockpit is molded separately and then bonded to the hull. If you are afraid of cracking the hull by forcing the cockpit loose, I'd take a angle grinder to the cockpit and start cutting away. If you are building a wood floor to go over top, you could leave some of the cockpit floor in place cutting away what is easy and/or in the way.

I removed the cockpit on my conversions with a big wide chisel, rubber mallet and a good whack! The cockpits are just glued down, it is not resin. Just hit it. It will come out in one piece. Trip.

With all this talk about Sunfish projects I have been thinking about retrieving a Sunfish I found washed up on an island half burried in sand. I had checked out the boat several months ago and it needs a bit of fiberglass work but nothing I can't handle. Problem is I have no room for another boat.
Does anyone want a Sunfish?

Come on George, you know you want it.
It's free and only a short tow back to the ramp.
I would get it myself but I just picked up another boat from Ohio last weekend and if I drag another boat home my wife is going to loose it. I have 4 at the house and 2 at the marina.
I think discovery channel should have a new show called "boat horders" I think we could get a few good episodes of just duck boat guys from this site.
