Ohio And Missouri Decoys

Nice work Tim! I appreciate you taking the time to document and preserve this precious history. I hope many will benefit from it.

Good morning, Tim~

Great contribution to our "continuing education" as usual.

In the Ohio piece, I really liked the "ice channel" (?) behind the head. Any idea where that term came from ?

All the best,

SJS

Hi Steve
The first time I heard the term ice groove was during Jeff Hay's description of Ohio decoys. I've sent him a note asking whether he knows the history of the term.
However, upon searching for the term via the web I've found several references to ice grooves especially in decoys from the Barnegat Bay area, for example the birds carved by Capt. Lewis Barkalow (1875 - 1960) from Forked River, NJ.
Perhaps some of our New Jersey friends can enlighten us.
Great question!
Tim
