Bullfrog about done....

All,

Just a quick update on my Bullfrog. The boat is basically done, although I have not painted it or added any hardware. We did finish it in time to use at the end of duck season. We employed it as a decoy sled while wading into flooded ag land, transporting about 75 decoys out into the marsh. I also made a low blind for it out of fastgrass, which worked really well in the flooded corn stubble and weeds. The boat is at 72lbs right now.

The contrasting color is all natural. I paid no attention to the strip color until I did the top deck, so the side strips were put on purely by random.

Here is a picture of the “sea trials” in the local creek (ditch??). I did not add keelsons, but may go back and add them as the boat does not track very well while paddling. Since there are no tracking issues pulling the boat with a rope while wading, the smooth bottom was not an issue and was perfect for pulling over levees.

Sorry, I did not take pics out in the marsh or in hunting action. Also, I have not tested the boat with an engine.

Enjoy!

Thanks for the look bill. I appreciate you answering my questions also. I like the little white diamond in the bow.

Bill,

Great job on the boat. I was wondering the first time I seen it. Do you think there is a design porpose for the bottom to extend beyound the transom or do you think it's a designed cosmetic feature. I remember my dad's 1966 square stern grumman canoe had a flat stabelizer but my sisters 90's grumman does not. That's what came to mind the fisrt time you posted.

Take care,

Ed L.

Pretty boat Bill !

I'd be tempted to keep her like she is and build another to paint OD etc. Kinda like when I bought a BW Montauk to duck hunt with and decided she was too pretty to paint.

You did a superb job,
Harry

Everything looks right except the seating . Shouldn't you be up front "navigating" ? ;)
How did the last weekend turnout ? Was curious to know if you hit Greentree.

Don't put the supplies up yet .............

Lesslie,

Thanks- and feel free to call again if you like.

The little white diamond was an accident. I ran 1/2" pvc fpipe rom where I though I might need to attach a bow light some day to the floatation compartment. I drilled a hole on the top deck into the pvc, then grabbed a piece of contrasting wood to fill the hole. Once sanded, it became obvious it was a piece of yellow pine I'd cut while setting up the table saw.

Take care!

Ed,

Thanks.

Not sure how the sten design affects performance, but on the Gator Boat web page they claim it adds some control to the boat. May some day I''ll fire up the 3hp Evinrude and see how she does.

Take care!

Jeff,

Alex was not feeling well that weekend, so we decided not to go. We actually got up to get ready, and he realized there are times when standing in water in waders is a real bad idea.

I just got my next assignment- we're off to Washington State. Hopefully we'll get to take advantage of that 107 day season/7 duck limit .

Will not pack the epoxy up yet, but time is getting short, so give me a call.

Take care!

Bill

That boat looks good enough to be a piece of furniture. Congrats on the WA assignment and once again you've managed to land in an area known for good duck hunting. I wonder why :)
