New boat

This is Steve Hoover's newer design. He orginally posted an 11 footer calling it a backwater model. I was able to get him to stretch it out to 13 feet. He are some pics of the finished product. Hope to water test it very soon. Starting to think how I am going to lay the blind out. Just wanted to get away for the glass over cedar design of the BBSB. I also needed more cockpit room for my son and dog. Cockpit size is approx. 72x26.5 and about 24 inces deep. It appears to have ample storage room to keep everything out of my way as much as possible. I have a 10 hp but I am working with Jim Donofrio to hook me up with a 15.

Anyone have any suggestions on dog ladders? I am planning on taking my Lab out quite a bit this year, weather permitting.

Certainly wouldn't bring him out on a day like Gene Jr and I had on New Years Day. Great day of hunting but I ceratinly wouldn't subject my dog to those temps unless Gene upgrades his TDB with all the amenities that Dave Clark is somehow squeezing into Jim D's Estuary.

I built a swing up dog step out of copper tubing some years ago. It is made to fit decked boats like the BBIII and yours. When running I swing it up onto the deck and hold it in place with a short bungee cord hooked to a eye under the deck.

I have plans in PDF format that I can email you if you want. You need to know how to sweat copper in order to build it. The beauty of this step is that it is custom fitted to your boat for the deck width, coming height, and water level. This step sits at the water level and when I lean over to help the mutt in it dips down about 2 inches which allows the dog to reach it easier. Soon she will be well versed in using the ramp and I won't have to help her in.

The design is based on a step another user here built for his un decked boat. With your metal boat you could install two U-bolts in the decking and hang the step from. However if you do that you could buy any commercial dog ladder rather than make your own.

After I posted this thread, I thought to myself......knowing how these guys post on this site and their comments (like Tod somehow seeing a crooked gauge on Dave Clark's boat) I wondered how long it would be till someone said something about the springer.

My lab was unavailable for pictures while we were taking them. He doesn't move from his bed unless we are swimming in the pool or I am walking around in camo and gun in hand. Here is a pic of him "moving"

Deep Run's Jumping Jack Flash. Grandfather was a two time finalist on ESPN's great outdoors....or so I am told. By the way he likes too jump...I don't doubt it.

Ahhh....that's better. Now if we can get him to use that diving board.

I have a little yellow lab too...she is an awesome dog, for the family anyway. She's a bit of a chicken.

Ah...you want diving board pics as well? He does that too. It's pretty funny....he lines up behind the kids at the diving board and waits for his turn in line. Then he walks up on the board and jumps off. I'll post some pics of that.

Next you going to be telling us, when you shoot ducks he grabs them before they hit the water........Hee hee

I just got lucky with Jack I guess. He is just a very well mannered dog. Great with the kids. Actually listens better than they do. They say that every hunter gets one great dog in his lifetime. I can't imagine having one better than him so I may as well hang up the waders when he passes on. I haven't used him too much for ducks. Mainly upland birds. This year I will be using the springer for upland and Jack almost exclusively for ducks.

Waiting for my wife to get me the diving board pics. If they didn't come out that good I'll take some new ones but we have some pretty crappy weather here and I will be in Baltimore for the weekend.

Mike, did you get your lab from Jack Jagoda @ Deep Run Farm in Va. I had him work with my lab 13 yrs ago, he did a great job.

Yes, we got him from Deep Run. Jack was born April 6, 2004. On Oct. 13th (my birthday that's how I remember) I dropped him off. He stayed there 2 months for training. It was hard...like sending my kids to boarding school. At the time I had a 18 month old and a 3 month old so naturally I needed a very well mannered dog for inside the house. I have absolutely no complaints with him what-so-ever. It's is truly amazing how much I love that dog. Deep Run did a great job and I would recommend them to anyone. I paid a bit for Jack but seeing the end result, I would have paid $10,000 for him. He's not a hunt test champion or anything...but he's mine and that's all that matters.

Had a good day today to post some new pics of Jack taking to the pool. It's pretty much a requirement at my house, if you don't like that my dog swims in the pool....find somewhere else to cool off.

Hey Jim D,

Thanks for the e-mail. I m still kicking it around in my head about the spray shield. I really would like to have something like Dave Clark did on that 21 footer. Naturally just the front part of the shield and then have something running along the rest of the side of the cockpit area. I have a really good idea what I want it to look like, just gotta see how I am going to make it work.
