Tim, Look on Craigslist. There is a 7 hp in Prospect. See if you can borrow a little larger motor to test on it before you drop the money on a 3 hp. I ran a 7 hp that was still pretty lightweight.

I have a 548 with a mud buddy surface drive. As others have said the hull is not designed for a mud motor. However, it can work pretty well. I had to play with the way it was mounted a bit. In addition keeping a an eye on the load is important. If you are not running it like a mud...
