    Kayak choices for hunting?

Thanks for the input Dani and Mike. I am leaning towards a sit-on just because I thought it would be easier to use with waders on, but wanted to hear from folks that actually used both. At least here in Michigan there isn't anything in the water that will eat me if I fall off.

    Kayak choices for hunting?

Will, I would be using it during hunting season mostly to retrieve downed birds on a pond that I hunt and maybe an occasionally as a layout in the same marsh. The depth is only 4-5 foot in the deepest spot and I could store it at the pond so transporting in would not be a huge issue. In the...

    Kayak choices for hunting?

Thinking of adding a small kayak to the fleet for hunting on small water, retrieving and some fishing and had a couple of questions for any of you that might use one now. Do you prefer sit-in or sit-on styles? How long do you use? Thanks for the input Ron

    Game Shears

David, I have a set of Gerbers that are 15 to 20 years old. I bought them after watching a guide in Iowa clean a bunch of pheasants in short order. They have been used on several ducks, geese, pheasants and chukars over the years and are still going strong.

    Filson

Sounds about the same price as I paid for mine 10 years ago so they haven't gone up too bad. I agree about the buying in bulk. My Yazoo is so old it's Brown Camo, but it still works great. I like the Stormy Kromers too and have 3 of them for different things.

    Filson

Phil, I have the both the Filson and the Yazoo and like both below 40 degrees. The Yazoo is lighter but the Filson stays on my size 8 head better. I've had the Yazoo for 20 years and the Filson for 12 and wouldn't give up either (although I must confess I wear them both more for Ice fishing...

Sounds like a great hunt. Do you think there are gonna be any birds left in the Marquette area by the 27th? We are hoping we timed the divers on AuTrain this year.

    Waders

Shawn, another vote for the Cabela's 1600 super mag although earlier in the season I use Cabela's DryPlus. Both pairs are at least 7 years old and have held up very well. I would caution that the 1600 gram boots on the super mags take a little getting used to, but hey doesn't everyone enjoy a...

    Seat Cover Recommendation Wanted

Eric, I have been looking at the fitted neoprene ones from GT covers www.gtcovers.com to put on my 14 4runner. I put a set of neoprenes on the wife's Element and have been very happy with them, easy to install and a good fit but they came from a Honda dealer so I would expect them to. Good...

    French Farm Lake

Thanks, I appreciate the info. We are going to be near Christmas at Autrain Lake the last week in October so we may have to swing by and take a closer look.

    French Farm Lake

Hey, have any of you Michigan guys ever hunted French Farm Lake up by Mackinaw City? My brother in law and I are looking for a place to try for a 2 or 3 day jaunt from the 1-94 corridor and it looked pretty interesting. Just wonder if it received a lot of pressure and if it is as ducky as it...

    TBT LEE

That made my day. Lee was the first person to welcome me to the forum many years ago and his stick man drawings always brought a smile to my face.

duckboats.net Sporting Clays Outing - SW Michigan or N Indiana

Chuck, I would love to do this both to shoot and to meet some of the folks from the page in person. I just had hip replacement this week, but am hoping to be able to return to shooting in a month or so and would be willing to drive to Indiana or up to GR as I am about in the middle here in...

Hey Dani Didn't you build a foam boat?

Thanks for the info Dani and Ray. I was thinking of building something like this while I was recovering this summer, but I think after looking at Ray's info, I will look for a small jon boat to set out at the pond instead. There always seems to be a bunch of 10 to 12 footers around here in...

Hey Dani Didn't you build a foam boat?

Dani Didn't you build a foam boat a few years back or is my old memory failing? If I'm right, what did you think of it? Did you get the plans online or build it from your own design? Thinking of building one for a small pond that I hunt since I'm getting a new hip and wading will be iffy this...

    Quick trip to the dakotas

Great shot Fred. Your dad looks like he had a great time and should be an inspiration to us all. I play tennis 3 mornings a week with several gentlemen in their 70's and up to 89 and they are something to see. They may not have the mobility they once had, but the love of the game is still...

    Columbia Widgeon Breathable Waders

I don't have the Columbia waders, but I switched to breathables from Cablea's 6 or 7 years ago thinking I would use them in the early part of the season. I found that with the right layering underneath they are good for almost the whole season here in Michigan. The only drawback to using them...

    MEC Jr. Reloader....

Nate, I have a MEC sizemaster in 16 ga that I really like. This is basicly the same loader as the "Steelmaster" and does a much better job resizing the brass. I think the Steelmaster would suit your needs better than the JR. even though it costs about double. I have been wondering about the...

    Decoys Unlimited Question

Just picked up 10 old foamers marked Decoys Unlimited, Clinton Iowa on the bottom. My thought is to burlap them and repaint as divers for my spread, but before I do I wanted to make sure they aren't anything special. I know that the company made decoy molds, but not if they did decoys for...
