Steve Sutton

Editors Note - Steve Sutton has the largest, most complete fleet of duckboats I've ever seen or heard of. His armada consists of:

  • 20' Jet Sled with 150 hp Outboard
  • 18' Semi-vee Jon Boat with 40 hp Outboard
  • 2 Barnegat Sneak Boxes
  • Kalash One-Man Layout Boat
  • Poke Boat
  • 18' Grumman Canoe
  • Pond Box
  • 19' Panther Airboat
In addition to thses fine boats Steve carves his own decoys. Thank you Steve for sharing your boats, decoys, and hunting pictures with us.
Barnegat Bay Sneak Boxes assembled from Kits purchased from Classic Barnegat in Maryland. Tandem trailer was customized to handle both boats by a local welding shop. The frame started out as a tandem jet ski trailer. The skirt design came from Sam Devlin and consists of bungees on the deck with natural colored hay bailing twine tied to the bungee. Cork puddle duck rig is not carried this way when boats are under motor power.

Close up of puddle duck rig. All cork and most of them mine with a few individuals from some real talented working decoy carvers.

Picking up after a hunt on the Columbia River. This is a very interesting place to hunt. Early in the season when the water is still being drawn down to winter levels this spot produces excellent puddle duck shoots. By mid-November the water depth where my partner is standing will be 12' deep and will provide excellent diver shooting.
