Craig Shire....any Sunfish conversion updates on performance, etc. for us?

The fact of the matter is that I haven't used it that much since the season after I made it. December of that year I came across a deal on a 2 man Merrymeeting style scull boat and my son is now old enough to hunt with me. We use the scull boat as a marsh boat as well as for sculling and use...

    life jacket/ boat question

For the high bow boat - Get a tiller extension handle and sit further forward in boat, put as much weight forward as you can without making the bow to heavy and low when paddling. A 9.9 sounds awful bid for a 14' canoe. Be safe.

    Router Question

Sorry for the cell phone photo. The girlfriend has the good camera hidden someplace and she wasn't home until late last night. The coffin sides are flared and both the sides, ends and bottom are in bad shape and will need to be replaced. I did get the coffin removed from the flat bottom...

    Router Question

I need to cut a new bottom panel for my old layout boat. The bottom is basically a large oval made from 4 separate pieces. My initial plan was to remove the bottom and use the pieces as patterns to trace the shape on to the new plywood for the bottom. Now that I am in to it the bottom...

    marsh lake rescue

I hunt the some areas on the Michigan (Western) shore of Lake Erie. Due to the largely East/West orientation of the lake and the shallowness of a lot of the bays and marsh areas in the western basin, some of my huning areas are very affected by the wind. South wind and north winds generally...

    Duck Hunting in Jackson, MI

I've never hunted Grass Lake specifically. Is it even huntable? I seem to remember it being largely encircled by cottages and homes. Be aware that just because a lake has a public access/launch doesn't mean it is open to public hunting. You need to be hunting the lake adjacent to public land...

    Hey Hitch

You're right Tim, It usually isn't so simple. In this case the threat of eminent domain was being used as a land grab tactic to acquire private parcels to allow a private company to build their rail yard. The economic development was the "greater good". Some tried to frame this as a...

    Hey Hitch

Eric, Protection of private property rights is a fine conservative concept and definitely common sense. The passing of ballot proposal 4 shows just how common sense protection of private property is. Do you guys know anything about the proposed developments on the back bays of Plum...

Anyone converted old speedboat/bassboat glass hulls into sneakboxes?

I've always thought the Glasstron GT series of speedboats would make a good conversion. They almost look like a bigger version of some of the Schellinger sneakboxes. You could use it as a sneakbox by pulling up on a marsh or lake shore and brushing up or use as an open water layout -...

Anyone sell plans for wooden v-hulls?

Like someone else noted check the designs at bateau.com. Plenty to choose from. They also have a pretty active forum where the pros and cons of the various designs are discussed. You might want to rethink the extreme deep V requirement. My understanding is that while they are great for...

Thinking out loud. Devlin build in Cedar.

Brandon, Take a look at public lumber in Detroit. www.publiclumber.com You're right, the okoume and sapele marine ply are just under $100/sheet for 3/8" but take a look at the baltic birch marine ply at about $50 a sheet. It should work out for a garvey style boat (no severe curves)...
