    Thanks. I gave up plucking and waxing swans after the first few. Start on them when they are still warm if you must pluck and its much easier; same with all other birds of course. There are over 300,000 feathers on one of these beasts! Would be a real luxury to have a plucking machine good...

    Thanks for the tip on foam. I will try it. Do you drill a hole first? I am 70 and used to order from Herter's in Waseca. Mostly their shotcups and decoy paint. I thought they moved to SD towards the end, but could be thinking about another company. I still have some of their old catalogues.

    I have some of their miserable hollow plastic decoys. Has anyone ever found anything that will seal the cracks? I have tried tar, PVC cement, and about five types of epoxy. Please email me at halka@hughes.net as I don't get on these boards too often. I have 15 of the damn things to patch.

    I forgot to mention. After your big dinner of roast swan, cut the carcass into smaller pieces, bones and all, and boil out the meat for swan soup. Delicious!

    I have cooked and eaten 9 swans now and highly recommend largest size Reynolds baking bags. I fill cavity with apples and onions (not to be eaten later) and cook 6 hours at 275F. Follow bag instructions. Meat will fall off bones. The mildest and best eating waterfowl outside of canvasbacks...
