Hi all,

Anyone own or shoot a Franchi 48AL? I am thinking of getting one for trap/skeet and also for the occassional shoot on teal and woodies in a little pond I know. How do you like the gun? Any pros or cons? Just looking for any and all feedback.

Thanks,
Nathan

12 guage. Thanks for any insights Lee.

Sorry to hear about Colby. My neighbor just put her dog down recently. His name was actually Dog. We was a stray and Nancy had taken him in about 10 years ago. He was a good old coot.

Best,
Nate

Since she started shooting it a few years ago.....I can't seem to get it back from her :^).

Nate the 20 ga. 2-3/4", 26" VRB, AL-48 Hunter Model I have weighs 5 pounds 2 ounces and it's a pleasure to shoot as well as light to carry. I have shot lots of dove, quail, ruffed grouse, ducks and even honkers with it. It is the fastest "woody" gun I own. It will be going to Montana again this year for upland shooting.

A friend of mine has the gun in a 3" magnum and he shoots a lot of geese with it here locally every year. Nice guns and dependable too.

Thanks Lee. That forum looks interesting. I will have to look around for a used one in the area. Seems that most of them have fixed chokes. I'd like to get one with screw-in tubes. I'd like to get something for woodcock season around here and also take it into the back pond for a woodie/teal shoot now again.

Thanks again,
Nate

I've seen nice looking ones go for less than 250 on Auction Arms and Gunbroker.com. Saw one go for 225 that had two barrels. Good luck.

I purchased a used 48 AL 20 ga, 3" mag last year and just love it. I was planning on buying a new one and went into my local gun shop to have them order one and they had this one siting on the rack for $300.00. I ended up buying it for $275.00. It was made in 1963, but the metal work is 98%, the trigger guard and action look almost new. The barrel was cut to 24". The forarm stock was in very good condition, but the butt stock needed work. Someone had tried to install an old red recoil pad. It looked crapy and they screwed up the finish while doing it. I shot 30 to 40 grouse with it last season in the condition that I bought it. It was a delight to carry.
After the season I refinished the stocks and had Gander Mountain install a deaccelerator recoil pad. I also had the choke checked thinking being cut would make it a cylinder choke. The barrel was over bored and it was 16 ga full. A bunderbust, no wonder why I hit so many grouse last year. Anyways, I decided to have screw in chokes installed. The first gunsmith had the barrel 4 months before telling me he couldn't do because the barrel was to large. Gander Mountain had it two weeks and said the same. So I sent it to Ballistic Specialities, Angle Porting; they use CNC and will make the chokes to fit the barrel. They returned it in less than two weeks with a set of five screw in chokes.
Now I can't wait for September to start hunting grouse.

For trap and skeet i would think it would be too light. I think its more a carry often shoot less gun.

Whats the price difference between the 48AL and the montefeltro?
