Anyone else paint their facemasks ?

All~

Face masks are one of those non-traditional "technologies" that I happily embrace whilst gunning. I have used them for about 20 years now - but am always in the hunt for the perfect one.

I prefer the 3/4 style - so I can wear my own hat. The most common problem, though, is that the trim around the eyes is too dark - and so contrasts too much with the bit of my face around my eyes. So, I just sprayed this mask with some Khaki camo paint from Tractor Supply. I have tried brushing on conventional paints but it stiffens the fabric too much.

The model, of course, is Tim "The Tool Man" Taylor's neighbor.....Wilson.....

I still need one with a good opening/slot for my call....

I've found it's easy to add a mouth hole (I make mine a little oversized to fit both calls and a granola bar snack mid morning) with a pair of scissors. I'm guessing a Sanford job would include hemming the edges, perhaps with decorative trim, but I just whack out a hole and let the fringe unravel. Never considered spray paint, but my mask is a little shiny and it's a good idea.

Steve, I too haven't found a lot of options out there with an opening for calling let alone very many that weren't designed to be worn during the Storm of the Century. However, Primos makes a 3/4 version with a mouth opening that may be to your liking although the color options are limited. Since it was probably designed for bowhunters who don't want a mask flapping in the breeze around a bowstring, it's not a loose fitting mask but it's fairly comfortable.

Steve wing supply carrys the primos stretch fit for $5.99. Has mouth holes for calling . I picked up several of these in full coverage instead of 3/4 coverage on closeout coup[le years ago. Good form fitting mask, not to hot or cold in use. When useing mask similar to what you,ve shown I simply reach call under mask for operation but a cut hole also works.

Gents~

Thanks for the ideas.

I do slip the call beneath my existing mask - but I am thinking of using a hot knife to make a vertical slit right beneath my nose. A hot knife because I've used scissors before - with ragged results. Vertical because horizontal never seems to be in the right spot.

Al~

I do not recall where I got the one "Wilson" is wearing in the photo - but I always pick one up when I find one - for guests, et cetera.

And - those Predator Eyes are just a necessary requirement of a successful hunt.

All the best,

SJS
