Bandsaw blade repair

A broken blade doesn't necessarly mean that it's a dull blade.Sometimes a wrong turn or twist of the work piece or a pinch can break a blade. I absolutely agree that if the blade is dull, replace it.A sharp edge is a safe edge

Hey guys while we are at it ,why not a little info on tuning or adjusting a bandsaw. I have seen guys trying to use bandsaws that were so out of adjustment , it was pathetic. Again very much like the difference between a dull and sharp blade makes in quality of work and safety, a well adjusted saw is just as important! lets hear from you guys what your bandsaw tuning or adjusting routines are or maybe new ideas are? Rich.

Rich,
I had a great shop teacher in high school who preached to us safe tool use. A great start.
For the band saw I liked the first edition of this book and the reviews of the update are good. It covers set up quite well.

There are a few areas that folks disagree on but for the most part a saw tuning to get things aligned and a sharp blade with the right number of teeth make for a great saw.
As I said I like the band saw. We have an 18 Laguna at work and a metal only 14 plus a cut off saw, I own a riser block 14 Delta at home and my friend has a huge antique that goes 26 or more.
For many cuts in boat building it is a real nice thing to have.

boz, I know the issue has been settled, one point I just wanted to add was that often when you snap a blade, the blade then goes crazy for a few seconds, often knocking a few teeth against metal etc. which can be repairable, but will take some time and loving. Often just easier to get a new blade. I have seen the blade wander after a repair was made making a wider kerf that just wastes time/material and stresses the saw.

So, what are you making??

I hadn't made a decoy since helping my dad back in the 40's. I was given some black cork and patterns over 10years ago and decided (with stimulus from this web page) to give it a shot. I have a complete workshop (wood) in a heated metal building that I haven't used for years except for storing mower etc.. I got some cedar and pine from Brian in Rockton so will start with the cork and then to wood. Most of my time has been spent in getting my workshop in some kind of order. It was a learning answer to all the response I got on the web page. I did buy two new blades and chucked the old one.

Keep us all updated on the progress of your dekes. Then once you get that can done, let's see if we can get together this fall and harvest a nice bull can over it !!
