Just got the plans in the mail today.

So where do I find BS1088 at living in central Iowa?

I'm guessing I will be ordering it, what would be the best place to do that from?
Plan to start in May/June if its warm enough, but want to start getting the materials ready so when it warms we can start!

You can get it from Cedar Tree in Des Moines (www.cedartreeinc.com). They are not cheap, but are probably the only place you will find it... PM me please... I am thinking of making a BBIII this year as well. I live in NE Iowa. If we can get 3 or more boats being built, it is significantly cheaper if we go together and get the wood from Eden Saw... Even with freight.

I checked your link for the midwest prices. I thought we had it bad living here in Alaska. I bought 3mm BS1088 last year for $33 each sheet. That inlcuded shipping markup from Washington through the local dealer who buys his from Eden Saw. Your supplier wants $66 for 4mm. They have really high overhead I guess.

Craig and Phil,

I live in Shell Rock IA and I'm still on the fence about building a Bluebill. Send me an email as well, maybe you guys can push me over that fence. My email huntindave@netins.net

With freight World Panel was more, and so was Noah's when I did my Honker last year. But these are pretty much the major distributors. There is one in Detroit, as well... but they were still high. Midwest Marine in Minneapolis is less than Cedar Tree, but they buy from Eden Saw, and then of course mark it up...

IMO for EVERYONE that is looking to build... find 2 or more other people, order from the big boys, and you will save much $$$$

Check out Johnsons Workbench and see what their price is and how much shipping would be. They have a store in South Bend In. and two in Michigan. After I bought the ply from one of my suppliers...I found that I could have bought from Johnsons for about 30% less..at RETAIL! One thing I have been pondering is..get the hull ply..BS1088 Okuume..then use MDO for the inside parts and deck. About the only savings on the MDO will be shipping if someone local carries it. I made the floor in my BB2 out of 3/4 luan plywood that I had in stock..covered one side in glass and the bottom side I gave 3 coats of epoxy...can't remember what year I built it..99 or so..and it stayed outside till about 2 seasons ago and it looks like the day I finished it. I left it loose so I could keep an eye on what was going on below.
