Can't play with fronds forever...

Last summer, I recycled the head from an old decorative carving and carved up a cork body for it to turn it into a gunner. Decided at the last minute to repaint it as a Euro. Had fun shooting over it from Long Point, ON to the Ohio River.

I always intended to take the pattern and carve up more, but doing the head as more of a true gunners head with a heavier structure to the "scolder" bill. Also wanted to do American widgeons, as putting out the Euro is fun, but no "If you build it, they will come" phenomenon has happened (yet).

Finally made up a few heads and glued up the blocks. Now the fun begins - Do I do two drakes and keep one for the rig and sell the other? Carve and paint one as a hen? Hmmnnn...

I "had" an absolutely GORGEOUS Wigeon in the rig breifly last year after Mark Rongers allowed me to bring it home from Canada with me, (like he had a choice), but he selfishly made me return it......

Head turned to the left !?! At what I charge, you don't just get the head turned right or left. Don't you see that my Euro has his whole body twisted to the right? One of these new birds will be twisting left, the other to the right.

So why would I keep another scolder that's twisting to the right in my rig? You'll just have to take the new one that will be twisting to the right. That way I can sandwich an unsuspecting decoy between them.....one that they can mug for his freshly plucked millfoil.

Beautiful bird Bob. I tried to duplicate the way you texture your decoys. Didn't come out the way I had hoped. How many coats do you do with the Gesso? Once again, great bird.

Ah yes....a nice immature bird being taken to school by some professional "robbers".

Steve..While you're changing your wil don't be afraid to include a few dozen other decoys too:-)

Only one coat with tinted gesso. Did you follow that with sponge texture coat of gesso / modeling paste 50/50?

but no problem....if you say ENTIRE BODY TWISTED TO THE RIGHT then I'll be happy with that....yep, no problems there....none at all....

If I'm not mistaken,Parks told me that Steve's whole body leans to the LEFT.LOL Get the lead out!:o(

coming from a man who calls Rush Limbaugh a "Leftist Nancy" I'll take that as a compliment.....and a BIG one at that.....
