I need a trailer to hall 60 to 100 full body goose decoys, motor and boat on top. I think I would like to build one or modify a existing unit rather than purchase a enclosed unit. I need it to be secure , yes sad but a fact of life there are scum balls who would rip off your rig.
Does any on have plans , experience, pictures or opinions on a trailer?
thanks rp

Rob look for a pop up camper. Gut the thing and fill with birds. Top pops up to unload and then locks down to store when you are not in site. Have a guy I know who moves all his this way. Works good.

Rob,

Where are you located? If you're near VT, my dad has a popup that is eating up yard space and I bet you could get for a song. Mice got to the canvas, and he's had visions of turning it into a dump trailer, but I'm not sure that will ever materialize (especially since he already has a small trailer).

Rob, The recycled pop up trailer is a good idea but make sure that you check/ pack the wheel bearings. Most of those campers have the small wheels that are running 100 mph without much maint. Just my $0.02. Oh yeah and the lights would be another item worthy of attention.

Rob, I don't know how fancy you want it. I have constructed covered trailers from a older boat trailer. It takes 5 sheets of ply and about 10- 2/4s A little paint. Like tom said first thing is check the wheel bearings and lights.

Both times I did this I got the boat trailers for nothing. The last one had to wire brush the trailer and paint and replace wheel bearings. A new wire harness. You end up with a 4 by 4 by 8' ft trailer. You could make it 6ft. high it would take three more sheets of ply.

I moved a lot of furniture with the last trailer. After moving I converted it back to a flat bed trailer for moving the lawn mower and other things. Used the ply for other projects.

It probably the least expensive way to go unless you can find another trailer for free.

I'd look into a used box trailer. Could check the classified sections at www.rcuniverse.com. It's a model airplane site I visit every day (yup, another addition). Regularly, you'll find converted trailers or factory built trailers at good prices.
