I got to tag along with the Outdoor Ed class on a trip to my friend Ryan's trapline today. It was great - really nice bunch of kids and a nice warm day. Here's a few pictures for you guys.

Eventually it was nice enough to sit outside when the sun was out, but I got to hang out in the warm tent all day skinning squirrels. I only had 3 or 4 students at a time which was awesome because they sure had lots of questions.

Ryan does pretty good on the wolves.

Some of you guys might remember me telling you about the school bison hunt they do here this time of year. Well it has become such a great event there are 6 schools doing it this winter! I think all of them are elementary schools too. That just makes me proud to be a Yukoner. It is good to see people with their priorities on right. More and more of our outdoor ed programs are incorporating hunting and fishing right into their programs. I think its great for young people to have a chance to develop their own opinions about stuff based on experience rather than websites.

Looks like wolverine claws to me... right color fur too...

that lynx is too neat... I've been looking for a quality lynx hide for a while now- the cheapest I found them was 2 years ago at a rendezvous and I passed it up because I thought they might have been illegally trapped. (No tags, dealer was from Texas) Rendezvous was in Colorado- I didn't know what to think.

My guess is a fisher. The paw looks too big to be a marten and too small for the mighty wolverine.

Oops.....guessed wrong.

You are right on Chris. Big black wolverine. Lynx in Texas eh? I think Ryan said his were going for $250 - 300 this year, so plus tanning you'd be in for a bunch. Just whack one of your neighbor's fat kitty cats.

Hey, super cool hawking pictures you posted BTW.
