Have you taken a CPR and first aid class lately?

If not please take one soon!
I was called to our showroom floor yesterday afternoon to find a co-worker laying on the floor in cardiac and respiratory arrest. There were already 20 or so others standing around wanting to help but they didn't know what to do. None of them had any first aid or CPR training.
I started chest compressions and had instructed another guy how to do mouth to mouth. We continued to work on him until the Fire Department ambulance arrived. Knowing several of the first responders and them knowing me I continued to do chest compressions while they helped work on him. We loaded him onto the backboard and off he went to the hospital. Unfortunately he died shortly after arriving of a massive heart attack. Rego was only in his mid 40's.
If I can change one thing from this experience it is that there are far to many people out there that do not know proper first aid or CPR.
Guys and Gals there is nothing more important than knowing how to save a life.
Please take a class. It's only a few hours out of your life.

John,
Thanks for the reminder. I've never had to use my training yet, but it is nice to know I can maybe make a difference someday if the need arises.

Sorry for the loss of your co-worker John. That is a good reminder to get out there and get certified.

It stinks that nobody knew how to help. Makes you wonder what if I had been able to get to him quicker or what if I had an AED available.

You may wish to speak to the boss and acquire an AED. The price has come down to the point that they are affordable, and they are better than CPR.

Sorry for your loss.

Sorry you lost an employee but a good reminder (the hard way) for all to update. Many times it doesn't bring positive results but you have to keep trying until professional help comes.

Knowing and being CPR certified is a good thing.

I applaud you for helping a friend and doing the correct thing in a high stress situation.
