Hey 3 Dogs, think this chunk is good enough?

for that little Spanish 20 bore we were talking about that is too short for me. What do you think this chunk of western black walnut crotch wood I found is worth? This is even nicer that DeHaan's grade #5 wood IMO. This is exhibition grade wood with matching forend wood.

beautiful piece of wood -- your not gonna take that into a boat or woods are you? lol

please post finished stock when you get it done

Dave ,
how much do you want for the "scrap" when you get thru cutting ?!

(insert> gimmie, gimmie,gimmie face here )

thats one fine chunk-o-lumber !!!

it fell out of a passing car when Judy was fueling up the school bus and after she followed the guy to tell him he lost it he said, "Mam that is the nicest thing anyone has ever done, you must know someone who can use it cause I was going to put it in the wood stove this winter."
You are something Mr. Parks.

Dave,

That sure is purty. I saw a chunk of wood that wasn't nearly as nice a couple of months ago at my reloading supplies place that had a sticker approaching $1000 if memory serves.

That's going to make one fine stock.

How long has that piece of scrap dried? Once it gets all polished up...it will be hard to look at with all those highlights..probably won't need a light in the safe. Is there enough there to make it a wooden butt? Watch that toe area..looks ripe for chunking off.

Maybe too nice for constant use,but only a stock man that has worked the exibition stuff could hang a guess on that one.Of course you probably got it for $169,including the forend,so it really doesn't matter. If it splits, hang it up or burn it.LOL:>)
Better wind today on the lake.More stink pots though.

I am guessing that you could sell this chunk of wood for enough to buy a really nice "usable" new gun rather than sticking it on an old gun.

then putting that wood on it would be sort of like putting a fifty dollar dress ona five dollar whore....it'll fit but it doesn't make much sense.....

Course since you likely located that piece of wood holding up the blade of a scrap piece of steel so that the Rattly Snakes could crawl up over the 55 gallon drum filled with fist sized nuggets placed there because the safe was full of "double eagles" and "Dragoon Colts in cosmoline" I guess it makes sense....

This Western Black Walnut has been air drying for 2 years and 12% or less moisture. This blank has the grain flowing up through the grip correctly to prevent split outs under heavy recoil. It will finish out dark brown, with some yellows and very light shades of reds flowing through out the blank in the sunlight and some back striking in butt end. It has a few very minor surface dry checks and no other problems in the butt or forearm.

Steve,

It may not make sense, but it made the poor whore feel better, haha! You are right, it's a bit over kill for that Stoeger Zypher 3" 20 bore. I will most likely put it on my Italian Breda 12 ga. since it has the engraving to somewhat match a chunk of wood like that.

I also picked up this piece of wood that would be more fitting to that Stoeger SxS 20. With some reddish English stain this pieve woud be fine on that short 20 you saw.

BTW I thought YOU had some interest in getting one of them long range Sharps sometime back. That is why I sent you the info on that nice Sharps book. I would have got it myself, but I'm on a collecting kick at present of collecting old shotgun books. Judy says we have to buy or build another bookcase if I get anymore of them:^)

Here's the other BW blank I got. Nothing fancy, just a nice piece of BW.

"her feel good" but I bet she'd rather of had the money?

That second piece makes more sense and will look great on the little 20 I'm sure....

I'd love to have a Sharps, no question. And that neat suplus Vietnam era RIVER BOAT that is one Craigs List, and a 1887 10 ga., and a 500 acre duck marsh and .....well you get the idea.....but I'll likely not find myself in a "weak enough " moment to give into that "urge"....I don't have anywhere to shoot it, plus I'd worry about the recoil and my eye with it so I'll keep fighting that urge and just stick to wooden boats and decoys as they seem to make more sense, (although the boats aren't as easy to "hide" when the UPS truck comes)....
