Haven't had much time this week, but managed to finish up the head of the woodie drake. A few more details and he's ready. Paint will have plenty of time to cure before next season, eh?

Beautiful bird Bob.

I'm lucky enough to get the colors close on my birds. Let alone that detail.

I got in an arguement with a GWT drake today as I started combing and gave up. Went and made dust instead. I'm gonna have a bunch of unpainted birds if I keep it up.

Thanks for sharing the progress of that bird.

Bob,
Your birds always inspire me. I think of your hen puddle ducks and I ask, Will I ever get it right? Am forcing myself to paint hens right now, after almost 14 years of avoiding them. One of these days I'd like to talk with ya about adding one of yours to my rig. Heck, maybe you'd like to come out and shoot with us out here on the west coast some next season.
Best for you and yours.
Kevin

Dang it BoB!!!
I'm still trying to Copy your feedin/scolding mallard and you go post this!!!
makes my birds look like the weird little brother that gets locked in the attic!

Are you going to Westlake?

Wow Bob,
Very nice detail esp around the eye area. I saw the Jansens bottle in the last pictures. Are you spraying mostly or brushing? The blending demo I saw at the CT Waterfowlers show two years ago on a drake mallard head was impressive. I have a few colors in the basement and this spring I will try them out. So much for flat black and white Rustoleum.
Again, very nice work.
