Pete, some specifics please? I keep coming back to this thread to get some specifics on your hunt. What draw weight is your longbow? What are you shooting for arrows and points? How far for the fatal shot?
 
Thanks again Al. Yes it was a fun trip home - we got a lot of looks and even had to stand for pictures at one gas station. The meat is great. I could only hang it one night as the daytime temps were up in the mid 70's but we had brought a freezer and generator along so once it was cut up keeping it cold was not a problem.

I shoot a 60# @ 28" Big River long bow of the reflex/deflex design made by John McDonald of Wisconsin Rapids. John is 85 years old and has been making bows since the 50's. My draw length is 27.75" My arrows are Victory VForce HV 300 carbon shafts with a 100 grain brass insert, 75 gr. broadhead adapter and a 235 grain Grizzly Kodiak 2 blade, single bevel broadhead. 3x3" natural turkey fletch. Total arrow wt is 660 grains with a FOC of 31.4%. Shot distance as ranged the next day was approximately 30 yds.



Same bow and arrow set up that I used to take this moose in 2014.

I just got back from Montana and we stopped at Slippery Ann in the CM Russell NWR to see the elk bugling. Loooooordy the bulls that walked the pastures there. Some BIIIIIIIIG boys. Pretty impressive to watch them bugling and posturing with each other while the young fellers slipped in for a "quickie" with the big boys' girls.

Pete..... Will still be to the West of you by a good bit at that point. Have extended the trip a couple of times at this point and if the weather stays as gorgeous as it has been I will likely do it again. Upland hunting has "taken me over" of late and I'm having the Upland Year of my life and do t want it to end. Found myself glassing a lake the other day that was holding about 2k Mallards and realized I was really glassing the shoreline for Pheasants.

I live vicariously through your exploits as well. Sheep were always on my list until I finally realized about 10 years ago that time had slipped away far enough that it wasn't going to happen for me.

A few years ago I realized that it isn't what we hunt or fish for that is important, it's that we are still out there doing it.
 
Neil, If you add all the inserts, adapters, etc. it's 400 gr.
