Love those black beaks---

Ha, I wanted to ask the same about the thermos! Great story, thanks for sharing, I ALWAYS look forward to your posts.

Kyle, I just told Vince that it was 4 years old. Glad you enjoyed the post.

Fantastic hunt!
Glad you are getting the gadwalls, sure are pretty birds, aren't they? A subtle beauty all their own.

I couldn't agree with you more, Carl. They are one of my favorites. To me they are a gorgeous. Some times they will seem much more wily than an old pair of mallards when trying to coax them into your spread. At other times you wonder if they have brains.

Al great pictures , we shoot very few gadwalls up here, they are a neat bird.

Fred

Thanks Fred. These birds were all very fat with the exception of one drake. That one looked like he had just migrated down here maybe from the Great Salt Lake basin area.

That's a great little honey hole. Wish I had kept track of the few that I had over the years.

I've killed more ducks in ohio over five decoys than most people around me kill with five dozen decoys.

I always enjoy your photos. Last year seemed to be the year of the Gadwall in my neck of the woods. We were getting something around 8 out of 10 of all ducks shot were Gads. This year its been a Mallard shoot. With Gads representing about 20% of our take.

Thanks so much, Tom. That is interesting what you had to say about your ducks this year verses last year. Now I am wondering how many others from different zones might experience the same thing.
One year I ended up shooting more greenwing teal than anything else. I used to wait for other ducks but would just see literally hundreds and hundreds of GWTs.

Great hunt and post once again! Thanks - Here we call the Gadwall the Alabama Mallard - there are so many.. Congrats and glad to see Habi back in a little action..

It was definitely good to have Habi chasing ducks again. Thanks for the kind words, Victor. I liked that name you gave the gaddie.

Looks like a great time Al!
I can see your dogs had a great time too.

This year the dogs have been having fun. The only problem being that there is always one of the dogs that has to stay home and of course they don't like that.
Hope you are staying warm, Doug.

My goodness, that Thermos is only 4 Year Old? Even the handle is gone, and it looks 25 years old! Love the patina on the finish.

I think I drove over it with my 4 wheeler and that is how I lost the handle, Vince. I'll clean it up after the season is over. It will or should last a long time.

I'm glad that I have taken pics of them because some day that is all I will have left and those memories.
By the way, I sure agree with you on those numbers of decoys, Kevin.
Two days ago, I started with 5 decoys and then ended up the morning using just 3. It worked!

Hey Al,
Thawing out here and geese everywhere. We started the day with snow covers, and by late afternoon had removed them.
Nevertheless, Doug and I had another good day on those other "black beaks." He heads back to school on Sunday.
Around noon, I left him with the dog and went into town to pick up a sack of burgers for our lunch. When I got back, I asked him if he'd had any more geese come in when I was gone. I got the smile , and the reply: "Just one" as he showed me the band. That's what I get for being a nice guy and buying lunch.

Two great shots. Thanks,Bob. I will bet that next year your son will probably have to remind you that it will be time for you to go get the burgers. Glad to see your son with that banded Canada. Where was it banded and how old was it?
