Miniature Pintail carving

Miniature drake Pintail carving I just finished. About 6" long overall & 3.75 inches tall, not including the driftwood. Balsa body, pine head, birch bark tail. The feet are made of copper wire armatures covered with thermoplastic modeling clay.

Wonderful work! Pretty sure my old hands - not to mention my eye - could NOT produce such fine work.

All the best,

That's a two thumbs up right there.

"Birch bark tail" that's a new one on me. Durable I would think. I've done a few miniatures none as detailed as your work.

Best regards

Thanks for the kind words - they're nice to hear coming from such a knowledgeable & skilled group.

As the years go by miniature work is definitely more difficult for me than it once was, but still fun.

Yes - birch bark can be quite durable. I've used it for tails on full-sized hunting decoys as well.

Had you not mentioned miniature I don't know that I would have noticed. The attention to detail is incredible. What talent to work on that small scale and yet be so accurate.
