I am building a sliding door that has to go around a corner about 45 degrees. It would be built like a roll top desk. I have pine boards 1/4 thick 4" wide that will be glued on a canvas.

Question is,what would be the best kind of adhesive to attach pine to canvas?
The canvas is like the kind you paint pictures on unfinished.

Will 4" boards make the bend? Can't remember what I saw Norm use..think it was contact cement and I think the canvas has to be sized with something before hand. What are you using for track and hardware? How big is the door? Google in "Tambour Door" and see what you can learn.

Thank you Mr. Harker, Just the information I was looking for. I knew what I wanted to build. I just didn't know the name of it."Tambour" I don't do French very well. I'm still working on English

The door will be 6'-7" high by 42" wide It is a pocket door. It will be hung from the top. I picked up some rollers from sliding doors that should work. I went to a sheet medal shop and had them bend up the track for the straight runs. The track for the corner took a bit of head scratching. I was originally going to make it out of wood but found a slide out of plastic used for Snowmobile slides. With a bit of modification this will work for the track around the corner. Watching the Red Green show for inspiration helps. Although Duck tape wouldn't give me the effect I was looking for. He will have to do a series on contact cement and all it's uses. I can visualize it now. A hunting cabin built in one day using contact cement. No hammer, no nails, no smashed fingers. Something to do while watching TV rubbing you hands and fingers for the next three days getting those little balls of contact cement off while thinking of that luxurious hunting cabin. Pete

For something that big..you may want heavier canvas..probably want a roller on top of every 1x4 also.

not canvas....canvas rots and canvas tears......vinyl material you can SCREW the pine boards to it instead of gluing it...heck you can glue and screw and when you're done you'll have a material making up your backing that will outlast canvas by DOZENS of years.....

Look at this website.... http://www.center-linecurtains.com/ ... they make the curtains for our trailers...

I can hook you up with these guys so that you can buy the material direct from them if you decided that you wanted to use a backing that won't need to be replaced in a few years..

Call me if you want to.... 425-271-8596.....

Hokey smokes! He would need 1/4" plate steel for the track to carry the weight.Actually, when Pete said how big it was, I thought of wooden folding curtain walls we sell occasionally..they have a heavy vinyl hinge/backer between boards.

of the stuff....in aluminum tracks...they could provide the tracks as well.....

28 oz. vinyl is no heavier than the heavy canvas and it also comes in lighter wt. if needed.
