NDR-rotator cuff surgery

You people that have had rotator cuff surgery can appreciate and relate to this. Yesterday I had my rt shoulder scoped showing some ugly pictures. My rotator cuff, which previously had been repaired, was completely gone--obliterated, with the supra supinatus tendon having pulled a inch of bone from the head of the humerus. The insertion of the long head of the biceps was severed, they removed the bursa and scraped the inflamed joint lining. I'm one helluva sore dude. I selfishly share this with you thinking maybe it will ease my frustration and pain with 8 weeks of Physical Therapy ahead with a bleak result of 60 to 65 % functional rt shoulder. I want to thank you guys that wished me well before the surgery that really helps. Now to make me smile someone please get a wood duck over woodrow.

Wis nice to see you back. Hope that things will go ok for you with recovery and physical therapy. With that shoulder the way it is will you be able to shoot a shotgun or is it going to be a wait and see kind of deal? Praying for you and I'm sure that everything will turn out ok.

you old Battle Wagon! Take it easy on that thing. I don't envy your PT....I've always had a hate/love relationship with those folks. Sonds like things went pretty well. How long did it take you to type this?

You're making me cringe becasue my right shoulder is a bit ont he mushy side. I know the cuff is messed up but I haven't had the time, money etc(read balls) to go in and have something done about it. I dislocated it quite a few times but lately it's been holding together pretty well. Based on your description of yours I'm thinknig I better get my butt to the doctor. As soon as I have the time and money(and balls).

hang in there bud ! PT STINKS ! but , if you do what they say the surgury will be worth it , if you don't ,don't do like most people and blame the surgeon for doing a bad job.
If it wasn't for the PT guy I had I would probably be in a chair right now. I still remember a tear in his eye the first time I stood up and walked about 5 or 10 feet on my own. I did go back one day to the hospital after I was released from PT ( ABOUT 5 YEARS ) and find him to say thank you and apoligize for the things I called him during session.....=).
Those people really don't get the credit they deserve.

Sorry to hear of your situation. The older I get, the more I appreciate the little abilities I still have. I'm sure you have helped many people over the years, and the good PT or OT folks will get you back on the road.

Someone told me the term "Golden Years" was originally a term used by doctors!

Best wishes.

Jim, my thoughts are with you. I was with the PT people for 3 or 4 months seem like I lived there. Take it easy on those folks. I know you have more experience than all of them put together. Harker will come up with some thing to ease you pain. Pete

I still hate the PT guy. I'd punch him today if I saw him. But that's just me....my femur was sticking out of my twisted thigh and it took me 5 months to get to that SOB so at that point he didn't have much of a chance.

Well, it's great that you didn't succumb to the anestesia(sp).... Is part of PT learning to shoot left handed? Have your son make a turret mount for your shotgun so you can just swivel it around to hose the ducks. Glad to see you back on here so soon after gettin butchered. Got any pics of the wound?

Jim,
Hang in there with PT. You have 10 months to work on it before next season.
I have had both my sholders cut open. Won't ever be able to get the level of performance I had before. Can't shoot my recurves anymore and that was very disappointing. But that gave more time for carving and boat building. Learning to let go and enoy new activities helped. Before my left was cut on I had to have help from clents I was guiding to even get my coat on.
Tough it out and get ready for next season.

Best wishes,

Thanks Mike:
Hopefully, I'll be able to handle the shotgun---hitting a golf ball maybe a problem. The surgeon said "if it hurts, don't do it". 60 to 65 % function doesn't sound like a helluva lot to me right now.

Messing with that problem and not taking care of it got me into that fix duck hunting on the Mississippi being stranded for 9 hours. I can type because my computer table key board can be adjusted to a low level. Always enjoy your comments---a bright spot in the day.

Being a P.T. for over 30 years we always appreciated patients coming back to thank us--it's always special. We were fortunate to return several paraplegics to almost normal function with early invention by our neurosurgeon and that was a real kick to have them come back in walking to say thanks.

Thanks Rich!
It's always great to have good medical people handy when you need them. It's what keeps us able to enjoy retirement.

Maybe it's hug your P.T. week? :) Thanks for your comments. How is your snow level up there. We finally got 6 inches (our first this year) and I was looking forward to trying some new parapolic skiis that I got. The mountains would be out but I guess local skiing would be out also. Maybe that's just as well---I've pushed the envelope too many times lately.

Never had a patient want to punch me out (to my face anyway) but the ornerist patient I had was my wife when she had a total knee and had to be stretched out. The air turned blue a few times. Is your hunting season over for the year?

Lee:
Your comments give me an idea. I have a small cannon that I start races with. I could mount that on the bow, fastening the wheels downl---what do you think?

Jim,

It will take awhile, but you hang in there. I lost about 1/3 of the use of my right shoulder in '93 and it twernt fun. There are days when I have trouble lifting my arm above my head, but as long as I can hold a gun, I'll still try to shoot.

You know us old cowboys don't bounce as well when we get thrown like we used to, but ya gotta just dust yer-self off and get back on your horse. Like Lee said, get that boy of yourn to make ya up a jig so you can get out this turkey season........that would be the best ther-a-pee!

And don't you worry about Woodrow, he'll arrive here tomorrow and I make sure to shoot some woodies over him just for you!

Take care, order some #4 Codien pills and sit back and giggle at everyone! If I take a #4 Codien in the morning, I can pretty well break horses 'til noon!

Dave:
It takes more than that to knock down us half breeds (1/2 german, 1/2 norwegian) but it just takes a bit longer. With woodrow in your camp shortly we're all counting on you and looking for some of the great pictures you take. Maybe it would be more fitting for your wife to take the first woody over woodrow? Maybe he really is a ladies man, what cha think?
