I'm picking up a Perche Creek duck boats "otter" within a few days with a guy I traded with. The boat is camoed, and comes with a 4hp motor, layout seat, electric trolling motor, oars, and a kayak paddle. Anyone ever seen or heard anything about these boats?

Im really excitied to use it around the protected bays and rivers hopefully this year! Now the boat collection goes to two! an aquapod and and a perche creek, at age 18, aint to bad:)

Zach, Congrats on the boat. Two at 18 is a good start, lol. Be safe, get to know the boats limitations and never take a chance in questionable circumstances. Wear your vest (do I sound too much like a dad? sorry!) Enjoy the boat(s).- Jim B

Being 18, you are probably much more computer literate than 99% of us..so post some pics of it when you get it..OK?

My buddy Ben and I made the original molds for that boat back in 1995. A guy splashed the molds after I had moved to Louisiana and put a duck head on the deck and renamed what was the "IB Duckboat" to "Perche Creek." They are a pretty good design for real shallow, protected waters. They are small and not very stable and you really need to be careful in deeper water. Also, you might fit in the cockpit OK if you are a small fella, but they get really tight and uncomfortable with hunting clothes on even for medium sized guys like me.

With a 4hp motor on that boat you need to be very careful about swamping over the transom and turning under power- trust me!

The MOmarsh original fatboy is essentially a widebody version of the original design of the "IB duckboat" which is the same as a Perche Creek.

Good luck! It will give you more diversity than the pod but do be careful as it is a very small boat for the ways that it can be used.

Attached is a picture of the ibduckboat (ib stood for Ira and Ben). At the time we made them 100% fiberglass marsh boats in the $500 price range were not the norm. Most back yard boat builders were making heaver and more stable fiberglass covered wood models. About 35 of the IB's were made. I moved to Columbia in 1998 and sold the plug molds to a local who modified the design just a tad and started Perche Creek Outdoors. The name Perche Creek came from a small river just East of Columbia by Midway. Perche Creek folded and I believe the molds were sold to Missouri River Outfitters. ben

How goes it Ben! Hope all is well with you and the family. I did not realize that you two had a legitimate deal worked out on the mold with Baxter back then. My memory was that it was a shady deal. At any rate, do you know how he is doing now? Heard through the grapevine that he was not feeling too well.

Have a new boat design done but have not had it in the water yet. Hopefully next week!

You retired yet?
