Picture Tuesday - Back to Argentina

The third team spawned by George's original journeys has formed and will be heading back to Argentina next summer. I promised everyone I would show some of the photos again, so what better place to do it.

To start, here are a few I hadn't posted previously. Dani and I got to the airport about 5 hrs before the rest of the crew so we had a tour arraigned by our host.

We loaded up on pastries and espresso before dawn, then hit the tourist scene with all the art displays tailored to the tourists.

Pablo, our guide is in the Argentine Air Force and is Giovanni's "bruder in love" (Brother in Law).

Pablo consults with the local authorities. There were stray dogs everywhere, but they seemed to mostly be well cared for. An elderley passerby fed this canine as we watched.

Of course soccer is a big deal.

And the Tango...

We hunted a small lake on a farm day one. Doug here with a few of our birds. Doug and I share similar careers. Small world.

Bill here with his father in Law Henry in their pit blind. Bill arranged our trip.

Giovanni had everything well planned out. I love his Land Rover!

And here's the lunch setup. Wine, cheese, Chorizo as appetizers while the boys grilled aged steaks on a wood fire. This was pretty much the setup for lunch each day.

Next was Perdiz

Blicky our dog on point for the trip. Sweet, but all business in the field.

And the evenings were for fine dining, fine wine, and conversation.

Hitch, i need to do a correction here---Bob Hollingsworth got me started on this addiction--He spent a few years researching, before finding Giovanni Corsi, who has proven to be a great host and friend to us- unfortunately, i had a previous committment the first year our group went, but signed on for the following year after hearing tales and seeing pictures--will continue until i cannot do it anymore, for sure!--Love the architecture!!
I spent some time this year at Benito Juarez, just photographing buildings, mercados, tiendas, and just some signs- An interesting not for you---about a week before the season opened, the road to la gringa was under water, as were the adjacent fields-The debris still hanging from the fences was a mute testimony to the torrents of rain that hit the area this year!

The good news about committing so far in advance is I have a WHOLE YEAR of anticipation to look forward to it.

The bad news is I have to wait a WHOLE YEAR to experience it. :)

hen red shoveler, yello billed sprig, coscoroba swan, dani with silver teal, cinnamon and male red shoveler con viejo, silvers and speckles, siesta con pato overo
Running species commentary!

Ed, other than sexing the birds, i have noticed that the hens have a slightly duller bill coloration---Gotta have them in your hand to make the observation---the widgeon confounded me---hens have a mite less green iridescence on the head-have also noted that the hens have one or two small dots on the bill--there ARE some species down there that have different coloration-shoveler, bluewing, cinnamon, pochard, to name a few--magellans are pretty easy to identify, also.
