Picture Tuesday..... Fishing w/ my son.

Had a chance to take my oldest son, Adam, out salmon fishing on the "surrogate" ocean last Friday. I didn't realize it until later in the day but he said he and I hadn't done this before - just the two of us. Shame on me. It won't be the last time either as we had a blast. 3 Kings, 5 Coho and 2 Rainbows. The Kings were 12, 13 and 15 lbs. Not the biggest but certainly a lot of fun. For once I had the program dialed. Set the first line at 7am and finished at Noon.

One of the reasons I like to fish our side of Lake Michigan is that every port has a fish cleaning station like this one. Running water, 5 HP In-Sink-Erator grinder and stainless steel tables. Can't beat it.

Quality of the pics isn't all that good because it was a phone camera but it was all we had. I am superstitious about cameras in the boat as they have proven to be jinks on more than one occasion.

Looking forward to the next time.

Thanks,

The one port that has never failed me - Racine. Had to go out 8 1/2 miles but that's where they were. Yep, they sure are good on the grill. Had some last night with melted butter and garlic. The Coho and Rainbow are for the grill, the Kings for the smoker.

Pete, That smoked fish you brought to the LaCrosse sure was good. Carol ate it until she was green. I never smoked fish but I use to listen to fellows talk about how they went about it. It,s more of a art than science. You have it down. You get up this way be sure to stop in. I pm my address.

You and your son sure loaded the boat! A lot of good eatting there and plenty left over for smoking.

I once tried smoking a fish, but I failed to keep it lit no matter how hard I enhaled. :^)

Specaking of smoking fish, have you (or anyone) ever heard of a Li'l Harry Smoker Plus of Iron Ridge, Wisconsin? It's electric, 2' wide by over 3' tall, all stainless steel with the temperature controls on top. It has a whole bunch of racks, wooden dowels and a large satinless bowl inside. Judy bought it from the manufacturer while on vacation about 12 years ago. It sat unused in teh box up at the shop until a couple weeks ago when I brought it down here and set it up in the breeze way. Ehen I plugged it in and turned it on, it poped the 110V 30 AMP breaker in the garage. I checked it out and could find nothing wrong in teh wiring, etc. but it keeps poping thebreaker every time. I think the manula said it only needed 20 AMPs. Any ideas of why it would pop breakers? Hard to believe it would have a dead short inside it, being brand new?

Thanks Dave, we really had fun that trip.

I'm not familiar with that smoker and it seems like 30 amps is an awfull lot for a 110 appliance. Don't know what the problem might be. Iron Ridge isn't that far from me and I don't recognize the name of the smoker.

I just looked in my Wisconsin Manufacturers Directory and there isn't a listing for Lil Harry Smokers in Iron Ridge. There are always a bunch of meat processors around that may be making/ selling their own smokers. Doesn't mean they aren't there but aren't in this directory.

Nice catch. It looks like you had a great day on the water spending quality time with your son.

And I'll 2nd that you make a damn good smoked fish.

I think your boys bring you good luck...unless I am along to jinx the works up. Glad you had a good time and caught some..the bite on my lake is only by mosquito now.

Did a mouse get in it and chew some wires? I think 30 amp is a ton for it too. Sounds like a heavy duty unit.Just went to the site and saw some were listed at 110/240...maybe it got wired for 240 with a standard plg and is shorting out?

A likely story I'd say, I'll bet your more worried about that dreaded "camera angle". BWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

Must have been nice to be able to spend the day together with your son. Care to adopt and even older "older son" for a day like that???
I'll even bring the camera. hehe

Nice catch btw.

You might be on to something Dave. Never thought about the 'camera angle' until recently.

The best part of the day was at the end when he said, "Anytime you want to go Salmon fishing, Dad, I'll go!!"

Pete,

I'm sure your son would have told you to "suck it in"......

Anyway looks like you had a great day. I'll make it three on how good that salmon was you brought to LaCrosse!

Ed L.

Thanks Ed, I just smoked the three of the kings today. I know they won't be as good as the brown trout I brought to LaCrosse but should satisfy most everyone that gets a taste.

I'm glad you got your motor running again. I can certainly imagine that sinking feeling when you saw her down.

And, Yes, Adam would likely say "suckitup".
