Hey Steve,
Yes, I figured that out after posting the question LOL. Kind of goofy looking in my opinion, but if they are functional then I probably will replace them. I picked up the 14 foot pointed Radisson from a guy down the street for $100 bucks. The sponsons are not attached, but he did give me the new replacements with it. It is missing a few ribs and the mat looks like it could be replaced so those are on order. Other than that a few small dents and some of the epoxy on the side seams need to be fixed. Whatever they use for epoxy is cracked and some is chipping off. I sent an email to BW Marine, a Radisson dealer to see if they could tell what product they use for the seams. Its something hard like JB weld so I may grind the old stuff off and replace with JB weld or maybe 3M 5200, or West System G Flex epoxy. Not sure yet. The cheaper the better. Other than that a new duck boat colored paint job and its good. I'm thinking if I put up to $250 or so into it then it would be worth the investment to me. They are in the $1,00 to $1,200 range new and used are selling for around $700 - $850.
I do like the light weight of the canoe which is why I decided to grab it. It will be a treat not to haul my, kayak on the longer treks. I do wonder if the foam mat will hold up to the rigors of ducking hunting and swamp muck? I'm thinking of placing some cordura fabric over the mat/ under the ribs to help preserve the mat. It would also help to hide the Black Hole effect of the black mat when looking down from a ducks point of view.
Here is what I'm looking at.
