Solas 4 Blade Props?

I'm thinking about a new prop for my 18 Nissan. I saw the Solas 4 Blade props in the new Cabelas master catalog. Add says they are ideal for heavy loads. They come in 7 or 9 pitch. Anyone have any thoughts on these props, especially compared to standard 3 blades props? Think I would see a big improvement in performance over the stocl prop?

I've got one on a 15 Yamaha pushing a Bluebill. I mainly picked it up for a spare prop, hoping it would perform better with a heavy load during hunting season. It has performed great for me, and I now use it as a main prop and keep the 3 blade for back up.

I put a tach on to check the rpms with different loads, and the 4 blade seems to stay in the range.

Carl,
see if you can find a forum that talks about your brand of motor. I think it was lou or lee who had a good outboard link. The only way to tell is with a tach and they don't like taking props back with water on them. BUT very big gains can be had at times with some hull\motor combos as Charlie found with his lund. On the bigger boats they sometimes go thru five sets of wheels to get the think dialed in. Stainless 3 blade might be even better than alu. 4.
Also will take a bit more abuse.
Good luck.

Thanks for the advice, I'll check around.
I've tried to find a stainless for it since I bought it, as far as I can determine, no one makes a stainless for the 18 Nissan. If I can find one, I would buy it.
I also thought about getting a Piranha prop kit for it. I've heard good things about them. I would probably just go with the stock prop pitch/diameter, the Nissan stock prop has been a good one for the wide range of loads I carry.

Carl,

I have a Piranha prop hub and a set of new blades if you are interested. I can check on the model number and blade pitch if you think you might be interested. I ran it for a year and went back to aluminum. That year the rocks didn't like me and I replaced two sets of blades. At least with aluminum I can pound out the blades in an emergency. If you are running in a lot of wood I would think they would work good but with rocks the blades have a tendency to shear off - saves your lower unit but is awfully hard on your back when you have to row back to the landing.

Pete,

Will it fit a Nissan 18? If so, I am definately interested. PM me with details & what you would want for it.

As far as rocks, I don't have to worry about that, no rocks in our bays. Normally not much wood to worry about either, tides tend to carry logs off before they sinks and we have no stumps. All I normally have to deal with is mud (some of it is more like a thick milk shake rather than mud), sand, weeds and small clam shells.

Carl,

I just checked and your motor requires a hub model TE3 and the one I have is an OD3. Also, the new blades I have are the 1013D which is 10x13 and not recommended for your motor. Looks like it won't fit.
