Tom,

You mentioned "watch for electrical gremlins". I asking the impossible but here's whats happening. After drying out the motor after it's bath, I've had the boat out twice and no problems. This morning, Vickie and I got up early for a little fishing. The motor started right up and was idling nicely. I parked the jeep and came back to the boat. As we got in the motor died. It started right back up and died after 10 of 15 seconds. Started again but would not stay running without holding the choke switch. Motor was not running smooth while choking. (I won't be running smoothly if someone was choking me either). Then appeared to flood out and has not restarted. Electrical gremlin? Or something else. Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Ed

Ed, First thing I would try is an alternate fuel tank, can you get a portable tank to hook up? If you can get at them I would drain the carb float bowls, should be a drain screw on them. Maybe you got water in the fuel tank. Is your tank built in or portable? Try that and see what happens.

Tom,

I think I got it. Disconnected all the electrical connections again and took a little emery cloth to everything. Then sprayed again with WD40. What ever the box by the flywheel is with the relay looking things was missed first time around and all the contacts were corroded. Also replaced the plugs. Checked to make sure fuel pump was working. Put it though it's paces this afternoon for about 20 minutes. No hic-ups. Very uncomfortable on the river today. I swear everybody in town that owns a boat is out. I'll take her out again this evening after it calms down it bit.

Thanks,

Ed

P.S. Used the gas in question yesterday with the 9.5 while scouting duck blinds. Had no problems.

Just read your story Ed. Glad everything came out all right.

Now--on the level--did you guys really have a storm, or did you just forget to put the plug in?

Rick

Ya...ya...ya......Go ahead rub it in....;-) I can't say I've never forgot the plug before. But this time it really was a storm.

As a matter of fact a guy and his son had to be rescued from a creek that runs though Davenport IA. Seems they decided a little white water adventure was what they needed. They just weren't that good at paddeling. Then 2 teen age girls decided a raft trip would be fun. They also had to be rescued.

Glad you had a good trip up north.
