Trailer Hitch?

Any suggestions on where to get a Class 2 hitch installed on my Subaru Forester? Always had them installed at Uhaul in the past, but the quote they just gave me ($280 for a hitch and wiring) seems kind of steep. On the other hand, it's a long time since I've had this done. My last 2 cars had hitches when I bought them.

Should I be shopping around, or does that seem like the going rate?

just got one for my silverado. hitch installed 189.00 wiring for a 4 flat another 45. have had three trucks done over the last 8 years, all about the same price

I make my own, but I realize that doesn't help you. Do you know of any welders who need work? If you already have the hitch and just need it installed, maybe an auto mechinic can do it for you on the side. Wiring it only takes a few minutes.

I installed the one on my last truck, it was pretty easy.
Can you do it yourself?

Only if it can be done with a hammer and a pair of vice grips . . . .

LOL. I'm better off paying to have someone do it right.

Thanks for the feedback.

and sometimes the "pro" was not so "pro".......But unless you have the ability to safely get the Subaru up off the ground for working room and all the tools...plus no "pro" buddies....then it is one hell of a deal as you wont end up squished under the rear bumper.....

Yep, good point: Working under a Full size truck was easy, no lift or ramps needed, so no change of the truck falling on me.

Wiggling under a Suburu to do the same installation would be near impossible.

Jeff,
When I want anything done like that, I go to the primary trailer place around here...Joe's Trailer. They are Pro's and I'm always treated well.
My experience with UHaul has been a huge clusterF....
When I bought my '03 Chevy 3/4 Ton, extended Van, I contracted with the dealership to have the entire trailer package done also. Turns out that they subbed it to UHaul. It was the worst wiring job ever and there was an un-fused hot wire hanging down under my van and the electric brake was screwed up also.
I took it to Joe's, had everything ripped out and had it done right and presented the bill to Chevy....they paid it....though I didn't give them many options. ;)
So..........proceed with caution with UHaul...IMHO.

Jeff; Try your local mobilhome an travel trailer dealers.Iworked part time for one and we actualy installed them for different auto dealers and they would tack-on there % to the cost.
