If I ever get motivated to do some more of these, mayhaps we could put one out here as a DHBP fundraiser item. Probably wouldn't have as many feathers, but I'd make something nice.
Carved Basswood GW teal speculum feathers ... Yes, the fuzz is real. I used to tell people I chewed on tupelo to make the downy part (funny thing is they believed me! -- "Really, Bob?" ....Sure, its an old trick taught to me by Buckeye Joe."), but my conscience got the better of me. The rest is wood & paint. Shadow box is mahogany w/ a plexiglass window.
We did something like this over at MLB quite a few years back (think it was mallard feathers).
