Widgeon

MLBob,
The head looks great!! Can't wait to see the whole decoy painted. I notice in the picture there is a paint brush for doing a "spatter" paint job. Where can a "spatter" brush be purchased?

Bob, that is an outstanding head. Your patience and artistry seems to know no bounds. Great job. I cropped this shot that I took last year when I was hobbling around on crutches after breaking my leg on a duck hunt. I still don't know how you did it. By the way, that beak is also dead on!

Hitch, Gary- Thank you!
Gary, if it weren't for the gunning part, I'd have never started this decoy stuff in the first place. That's like saying River is too pretty to put in the water when it's cold... No reason form and function shouldn't work together. By the way, your pictures have (as usual) been awesome!

Tim-
That is a Kemper Tool SBT ( I think its the MLBob autograph model ;-)) Willy McDonald at the Duck Blind can set you up with one. Last time I purchased a few, it was from Willy.

Ryan-
What's not to enjoy? This was a season of the few, but that sure didn't stop us from getting out and enjoying it whenever we did.

Steve-
That thought has crossed my mind.

Al-
The wonderful thing about DHBP is you can refer to a duck's "beak" without getting in trouble. Seriously, patience increases exponentially when one has the luxury of this:

What my Grandfather used to call "Il dolce far niente" ( In context: "The sweetness of doing nothing after hard work.").

Dear brother Bob,

Another masterpiece in the works! You simply have been so very blessed with a bounty of talents!

Your Widgeon now lives in my family room with some other items from the MLB Furia Shrine I have created. He still has a couple knocks on his head, and the paint is a bit rough in spots. That, from spending a full season in the bottom of the Bill Collector.

One particular day while hunting a stake at Long Point a few MLB Conventions back, I put that drake Widgeon right in the middle of a dozen Lakeside Mag cork Pinnies. The Widgeon were coming off the roost in singles and small flocks. EVERY WIDGEON that came off the refuge and passed by our stake would make an abrupt right turn, and key on that bit of the spread. I had Mallards, Blacks, Cans, and Scaup out as well, but the Widgeon sucked in to that single drake amidst his Pinnie buddies. I was convinced that day that real nature was as impressed by your work as we duck hunters are.

Then, there was the Swimmer Widgeon that; "Strayed" from us while up at Au Train Lake. Terrific, how you got that one back!

God Bless All at Casa Furia,

Mark

One day while talking with my father when he was at the ripe old age of 85, I looked at him and asked, "What do you like best about being retired, dad?" Without a moment's hesitation he said, "The beauty of retirement is that you have 6 Saturdays followed by Sunday."
I, too, love my six Saturdays followed by Sunday. Tends to give me ample time to duck hunt and do other very important "jobs".

Bob........I just love watching the way you make them "come to life". You need to bring back your "picture tuesday" or thursday or saturday...................... Do you have any pictures of all of your personal spread together in one place, like stored for the off season or something, I would love to see that picture. I have seen your tutorials over at the MLB site and will be using them to help me get started. I am trying to create an area of my basement for carving and am convinced I need a BIGGER basement:):)
