I remember a while back there was talk and maybe even plans for a wooden "gunning" box that would hold your shells, lunch, etc, and had a "saddle" on the handle on top to hold your gun. Does anybody have any links, pictures, plans, etc. for this? Thanks, Kirk

I recall that Eric Patterson was the Man with the Plan but I'm not sure if it got pulled over to the new site.

Actually even a picture of one would be very helpful. The guy that's helpig me build my gun cabinet wants to make some type of removable tray for all of my cleaning supplies, and I asked him to make a saddle on top for gun maintenance like one of the gunning boxes. He's never seen one of them so I'm trying to show him something. Thanks, Kirk

Kirk, I don't know from where you hail, but the Poygan Shell Box is quite common and still in use in my area. People collect theese like decoys and all the decoy shows in this part of the country have them.

I see someone is sending you plans for one style. Guys are as particular about there shell boxes as boats...so there are many designs.

Because I lack the techno skills to crop a picture, I will have Pete McMiller post one for me. Mine is a drawer type, so the gun does not have to be removed from the top to open. It also has some water tight features and the drawer is off the bottom so as not to get wet when there is water in the bottom of the skiff. Mike

Just got pics from Mike "yeoldductoller" of a Ron Cook box. I'll resize them and try to post them tonight.

Hey Mike,

good to hear from you. Are you gonna be at the Oskosh Decoy show coming up? Would you mind bringing your box there? I would love to see it in person. Any chance to send me those pics as well? Thanks.

Eric.

Eric, i can bring the Ron Koch Poygan box to the Oshkosh show. As for sending you pics, you are unlisted on your profile for e-mail. Mike

Sorry about not getting the pics posted last night..I ate about 2lbs of home made hotwings and had to lie down...

Eric,
Not to highjack your post but, when and where will the decoy show be in Oshkosh? Got a daughter in Appleton we might have to go see ;^)
thanx

George

George, the Oshkosh show is March 10th, 8am-3pm,at the Hilton Garden Inn in Oshkosh. I'll have a table there; stop in and say hello.

Mike

Not sure who had the pics or the plans but I would appreciate taking a look if they're available...maybe Geoff for the plans and Lee had some pics?

Let me know as I have a half fast project out inthe garage to finish ever since Sutton brought this topic up 3 or 4 years ago

Anybody remember that box? It was very cool, very Suttonese and we all sent a bunch of redwood across the countryside in an effort to duplicate something like it

the box we were working on and the box they are showing here.

The Hagerbaumer box that we were looing to duplicate didn't have the gun rest and was a flat box....had the compartment with the holes for 50 shells and then storage to the side. Looked more like a brief case than the shoe shine box look of the Poygan Boxes that have been shown here...

Just think, if we had had those boxes when we thought we would that have five or six seasons on them by now.....AND I wouldn't still be using a Flambeau tackle box for my Barnegat Gunning box.....
