The Dedication of the Capoli Slough Islands and a plaque to the duck hunters who perished in the 1940 Armistice Day storm was a great success for the Historical Ferryville group. There were top brass from the US Army Corps of Engineers, the U.S. Fish & Wildlife, DNR, and Dept of Natural Resourses from the surrounding states who all spoke; and of course politicians were there. In a contest to all the surrounding schools of the Pool 9, the elementary students were asked to name the 5 islands and the winners were present with their winning names. The artist that painted the picture of the storm, Michael Sieve, was present and I had the honor of uncovering the plaque with the Ferryville Historians. It was fun talking to all the brass , placing faces to people we had only heard about or seen their directives and input thru the years. These plaques are at the Ferryville boat landing and are worth taking time to read.
