Eastern Shore ????

I'm heading down to Tilghman Island to hunt divers and sea ducks on the 29th and 30th. The reports I've heard have not been good. Not many ducks around down there.

Anyone have any recent success down there, or see even a small increase in duck numbers? Maybe I should bring a fishing rod and leave the shotgun at home:D

Hi Charles. Don't forget to stop into the Tilghman Island Country Store when you go. Thats my sister's store. They have wonderful baked goods and a bunch of my decoys for sale there. Its the red building on the left about 1/4 mile after the drawbridge. Think apple muffins and choc cake......

I've hunted around the Annapolis area three times in the last week and have only seen and shot butterballs. Have not seen a single bill yet. A buddy hunted Hooper's Island the week before Christmas and they only hunted the bay one morning the rest of the time was spent hunting the ponds and impoundments shooting greenheads, no divers to bother hunting the bay. Need some weather.

John, I will absolutely stop there, at least for breakfast in the mornings before we hunt. The Apple muffins are top notch, and you mentioned the burger with caramelized onions on here before. I may have to give that a try.

Todd, that's pretty much what my guide said when we contacted him today. The only divers around are Buffleheads, but the sea ducks have been pretty good. So we'll probably do a day of Sea Ducks then spend a day shooting Buffies. Although I'd much rather shoot Scaup and Canvasback like last year. But hey, that's hunting, especially when you're traveling and picking the dates a year in advance.

I really love going down there. Its amazing to visit a place where duck hunting, fishing, crabbing, etc. are so much a part of daily life.

Charles, good luck on your trip. We're supposed to get some snotty weather here in Vt starting tomorrow. Maybe that will encourage some birds to head south.

Ask for Patricia when you stop in the store. Tell her John says hi :)

Will do! I'll be sure to check out your decoys as well!

Even if I don't manage to shoot or even see any ducks, I figure its better then not shooting ducks here in PA. Besides at least I'll be able to stuff myself with fresh oysters and beer right?

Thanks fellas!

And don't forget the cream of crab soup.....I do love cream of crab soup. St Micheals now has a brewery. I forget what its called, but its on the right as you come into town from Easton. I'm pretty sure they will sell and refill growlers right there.

John

Thanks for the tip. I googled St. Michael's Brewery and found The Eastern Shore Brewing Company. http://www.easternshorebrewing.com/

I'll be pushing this for a dinner destination one night since I love to try new beer. Not sure if it will fly with my travel partners though. Me personally, if I'm near the water I want to eat at what ever shack is closest to the dock. Just bring me a pile of whatever just came out of the water, breaded and lightly fried, some hush puppies, cole slaw and some cocktail sauce. If its crab season, just start bringing them to the table, I'll wave you off in a couple hours when I've had enough.

Well there's a pretty nice storm coming through here right now, supposed to get some wind too. Maybe it will move some birds around. Here's hoping!

Good luck on the storm and the dinner. I've never eaten there and would be curious to hear how you liked it.
