Battery box

I finally got around to addressing a nav light issue in the BBIi and inspired by YouTube and kayak videos made this box. It houses two 12 v batteries and is connected to interior lights and navigation lights by two quick disconnects in the back of the box. The box itself has two leds and a phone charger. Idea is that I can easily pull the box to bring it inside to recharge or use it for other purposes where light and charging would be handy. It has a small docking station in the boat to keep it in place
Thought this might be a useful reference or idea for anyone considering wiring on a small boat

Sweet batt'ry box! I had a similar one in my old gaff sloop. I think my Dad had salvaged it from a cabin cruiser that went down in a hurricane (1954).

Question: You note 2 12-volt batteries. What type and how big? As weight is usually a consideration in smaller duckboats, I have never had electric start on a gunning boat motor and I have wondered how small one could go (with a marine, auto or motorcycle battery) and still have sufficient energy to start a small (15 hp) outboard even in January temps.

Your thoughts?

Very cool! Looks much nicer than the black plastic battery box I did something similar with years ago!

Hi Steve. Well. Here’s a pic of the batteries and there are two wires in series. I modified a design for kayakers and as I do not have an electric start I did not take that need into consideration. I would be out of my depth attempting to answer your question about oomph for starting an outboard. I would be interested in hearing input on this too. At some point I imagine I will repower the boat and when that day comes, I want to be able to push a button
