Historical sneakboxs

Hi Bob-great pics and great boat. Did you have this boat at the Tuckerton show maybe 15 years ago? I saw one there and spent some time looking at it. I obviously don't remember who it was. I loved the idea of doing something so different.

Hello Group just wanted to introduce myself my names Bob Keeney and I am a New Jersey waterfowl historian and sneakbox builder/restoration & show one of the 14 historical gunning box’s that I use. This is a 1955 Harland Price of Parkertown NJ Inboard/Sailing Sneakbox. Harland Built 7 of these sneakboxs and only 2 remain in original design and operational. It originally was built with a 3hp Briggs & Stratton. When i restored the box i put a 3hp Honda. The motor is air cooled and rope and tiller steering. It is 13ft long and 4 1/2ft wide. I use it every opening and closing day of costal season

Here is another Historical gunning boat from my collection it is a 1960 Bob Guenther Gunning Garvey it was built for Big Walt Johnson owner of the Historic Hester Sedge Gunning Club in Tuckerton NJ the boat is 13ft long and 5 1/2 feet wide. Made out of Jersey white cedar and mahogany plywood and fiberglassed over. When Walt stopped Gunning he gave it to his long time guide Bruce Skie of Tuckerton who then sold it to me to restore and use. The boat flys with a 8hp evinrude on it.

That's one of the better looks I've been given of a Guenther garvey. It looks like it could really get into skinny water and I believe you when you say she flys. She looks to have a bit more storage under the deck than the typical sneak box too. Neat rig.

Thank you Eric, the normal Guenther garveys were 12ft long that were published by popular mechanics magazine. This one was built a foot longer and a foot wider due to Big Walt being 6ft 5 and being 280 lbs so he built it to fit him comfortably! It’s a great stable boat !
