Why we should refrain from speaking to press

Have to agree on your statement about hull mass over materials. I crossed the exact spot in a gale in my 19' Carolina Skiff back on January 13, 2004 heading into the wind against the outgoing tide. The mass of the hull performed well but it was a wet and slow ride. I even cut off the marked...

God looks out for fools and duck hunters

Reason why I do not hunt sea ducks is my two boat rule; no other boats to venture out with. Never head out into big lonely waters alone is my rule. In the estuaries I can abandon ship and walk ashore, pole to the shore, etc.; but on big water so many things can go wrong, usually at the worst...

Why we should refrain from speaking to press

http://www.southcoasttoday.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20140126/NEWS/401260320 Well, looks like I have finally found the article that I have been looking for without irrelevant information. Dr. Angell has done a good job communicating with the press and the press conveying his...

Betting a leak also. Solutions and problems are seldomly easy but did you rule out ice build up in a low point that melted during the hunt?

Why we should refrain from speaking to press

Well put Jeff about Ted Nugent et al as to what a pitiful example they are for the hunting community. Glad to see others share my concerns and I can see point that while malice may not have been the intention of the reporter; quotes were certainly selected that cast a shadow over us to...

    Eiders fit for jerky?

I have hunted eider and no longer but when I did we always smoked them and they were as good as smoked venison. That sounds like something the most interesting man in the world would say from the beer commercials.

Why we should refrain from speaking to press

While the medical and first responder aspects of the article are informative the accounts from the hunters leave their mark on the non hunting readers-"they taste like " and decor for the wall. I am not comfortable with people thinking that I go out waterfowling for "wall decor" and not to...

Why we should refrain from speaking to press

http://www.bostonglobe.com/...0dOJMI1VL/story.html Read on why this hunter is after sea ducks. No fault pointed as I realize the press cherry picks what they use for their articles and twist the story so it is most appealing to their readership. No matter what is said to a liberal journalist...

    duck ID help

Gadwalls. First is a drake, followed by a hen. I just commented in another post about how common they are now in Massachusetts on the coast. In the 90s I never encountered them on the salt and now they are encountered almost every outting. Nice pictures especially of the drake wigeon.

    Quick Snow Hunt

Hope you get out one last time. I was hoping to get out one last time on Sunday in RI but the wind made for a different outcome and I called it a season and put the gear away. Thanks for the pictures and nice bag. Looks like I am not the only one that encountered gadwalls in good numbers this...

    Boat for my son

I am with Jeff on the canoe or kayak before stepping up to an outboard; however, I would limit his locations, range and time-frame for fall and winter outings. Don't wait till fall either as the late spring and summer are great times to be on the water learning the particulars to a new boat or...

    Anyone wear float coats?

Some great content to this post. Certainly has me thinking about additional precautionary measures I can include for next season in addition to the float coat. Thanks Jeff for the inclusion of your safety items, the whistle, radio and strobe, all items I will include with my float coat for next...

    Hunting in wheat...

Well, if the birds are not feeding in the tall wheat than that could be part or most of it. I saw a flock today in a field with really tall winter rye that was half way up the body of the geese. Also, when birds, ducks or geese, have a predetermined flight path or destination everything can be...

    Winter Scenes from January freeze.

Ya Jeff the pond box makes it a lot more comfortable to hunt the flats without laying in the mud or tucking into the ditches. An easy alternative pond box is a Jet Sled or other snowmobile sled. Cut a piece of burlap to cover the box/sled and throw grass on top. It really brings the black ducks...

    Winter Scenes from January freeze.

I get use to the temps and it does not phase me; however, your warmer climate is my envy. Not sure I could get use to snakes during duck season that can put a hurting on but what is the alternative. Even though we can only take one black duck they are my favorite and I set out for them almost...

    Winter Scenes from January freeze.

Some pictures from January 4, 2014 taken in Southeastern Massachusetts. That was the week of the cold weather-"POLAR VORTEX" and I opted to stay in bed that morning with temps at -5 F and recent snow fall the day before I was afraid the birds wouldn't fly until much latter in the day and I was...

    Show us your duckboat

My AA Wigeon with its winter coat on. Grass zip tied to plastic fence. Fencing cut to shap of cockpit cover and the middle piece cut out is in use to cover the motor. It has a Thai longtail kit with a HF Predator 212 for power. Picked the mud motor over a outboard since it is a lawn mower motor...

    Anyone wear float coats?

Bass Pro is clearing out or was last week the Mustang Float Coat in camo but it is long and will not work with waders for me at least. Nice part about solid color Mustang coats is the solas tape as if you need the coat for its intended use and search and rescue is needed camo makes it hard to...

    Hunting in wheat...

Got a bunch of questions that could have resulted in that type of behavior. Have they been using field before today? Have they been hunted in that field before today? Have they been shot from that spot before today? How many decoys compared to flock size? Method of concealment? Decoys left out...

    Anyone wear float coats?

I wear a standard life vest under power. A float coat is on the top of my list for next season and after looking over the Onyx, Sterns and Mustang, I am partial without having any in my hand to the Sterns. Not a fan of hoods unless it is miserable out and when the situation warrants a hood I...
