    Scoters on Mississippi Sound

Tough to tell in the photo. At full size I thought there was white, zoomed in a bit and it may be the lighting. We're seeing the same change in duck migration patterns. The birds are bypassing us for the most part, I think much of it is changes in weather and agriculture rather than fewer...

    Scoters on Mississippi Sound

They look like Skunkheads/Surf scoters...if that's a white patch on the back of their head.

    Tool bag?

I second Eric's suggestion regarding the DeWalt tool bags. I have a bunch of DeWalt cordless tools and most of the bags they came with have been repurposed.

So I did a thing ….. not sure if I’ll like it lol

As mentioned above, I doubt you'll get anywhere near the top end as you got with the 40 hp OB. Before you drill holes to mount it, check transom height against the motor. I'd suggest calling ProDrive, they're very helpful. Not sure, but you might need a jack plate to maximize performance on your...

Gray ones are OK, black and white ones....

A good retriever just can't resist. Give him a pat on the head. Good boy!

Gray ones are OK, black and white ones....

No badgers in ME, but when we're there i keep an eye out for the quill pig. What a nightmare. Don't the prairie dogs host plague and other nasty stuff? I might discourage bringing them home.

Gray ones are OK, black and white ones....

Be thankful he's picking up road rats, at least they're pretty docile. I kind of like to see them, as the cursed ticks are high on their menu. A month ago a rescue mutt we inherited from a close friend who passed, got in a scrap with a raccoon. I wish she would have pissed on him instead...

Does anyone have a Merrymeeting Bay Gunning Float?

If you want weight that you can move around and that won't damage the hull, buy a couple bags of lead shot. The nearest gun store with reloading supplies should have it. It usually comes in a tough cloth bag, you can always double bag it in an old burlap bag for safety.

US Drought Monitor: Not Looking Good for Anyone

No, in CT to put in an appearance at the office. Ducks open again next weekend. These temps are ridiculous. I'm really nervous there might not be a winter. We bird hunted in ME last weekend, two of us had over 80 flushes in three short days. Good numbers of grouse this year. It's amazing what...

US Drought Monitor: Not Looking Good for Anyone

No argument that it's concerning, but I'm a balance guy. Extremes on either end of the weather scale are what climatologists are saying will happen on a warming planet so I'm betting a new weather pattern featuring intense rain across much of the country sets up late winter, lasting six months...

    Pillow Talk

I haven't heard of the purple harmony, but am going to check it out. I am picky about my pillows, when we travel I have yet to find one in a hotel that I like. We use down pillows at home. My wife and I are both stomach sleepers, the down pillows are super soft so they don't hurt our necks...

Why do I have to have some many boats ….

No such thing as too many...don't count them, rather daydream about the next adventure you'll have and which boat it'll be in.

    Vintage duck boat

Thanks Steve. I never built one with the daggerboard well. My grandfather did and that was where it always leaked. They're quite easy to build without the well. The keel on the Megargee plan is just the center plank, 5/8 while the rest is planked with 1/2 or less. I built a pair entirely out...

    Vintage duck boat

Stef, The boat looks like it could have been built using the Megargee plans, published in Field & Stream c. 1946. I built four from those plans in the 80s and 90s. I'm not sure the plywood would take the curves however, maybe only on the deck as is the case on your boat. Only a guess though...

What Would A New Fox SxS Cost Today?

I've been fortunate to own a number of nice shotguns, but I rarely drag them out in the marsh or on a breakwater. When I was a kid, it was generally a model 12 or an auto 5. I don't have either one of that vintage suitable for non-toxic loads that I like. For years since non-tox became required...

    Anybody Recognize the Maker?

Hope they don't try to gouge you. Any reasonable fee will be worth it, think how nice they'll look on a ledge or shelf in your shop.

Great price. It'll cost more than that to have them shipped.
