The 1961 Evinrude Duck-Twin 3hp "Splash of Vintage"

Not terribly duck related, but my mother grew up in Nanticoke. My grandfather (her father) and his five brothers worked in the mines. At least one was killed, and my grandfather survived a mine gas fire which killed many of his coworkers. I believe there really is a Nanty Glo in PA, I think...

    What’s on your workbench? August

    (y) I'm with ya on that. Another year, maybe two. My retired buddies say I'm in pre-retirement mode. I take about a week off every month. I need to ease into it gradually.

    What’s on your workbench? August

Looks like you found your slice of duck hunting paradise. Better keep the landowner happy. Does that mean you can never retire? I've always wanted a duck hunting property that I could manage like you're doing, but they are few and far between in this part of the country. We do a little...

    What’s on your workbench? August

I always enjoy a flyover prior to the season. That looks like a good spot, along the river. It provides perspective, and context, to your first photos of the blind build. Nice ducks eye view of the blind, you guys have your hands full hiding it. Should be worth it when it's complete.

    What’s on your workbench? August

We typically build four blinds every year, the average number destroyed by ice and storms. Nothing as grand as Eric's fortress, small 3 guys and a dog size. They're all finished now, ready to be set. Only two months, time is short!

    Balsa block

I would guess you've seen National Balsa's website. That's the only place I ever bought it. Most of what I have is scraps leftover from the WWII liferafts.

    Do you name your boats?

The only boats I plaster a name on are larger, inboard powered craft. For instance, my offshore boat was Thunnus, named for her quarry. The small stuff like duck boats don't have a name on the transom but might be bestowed a sobriquet such as Davy Jones Locker (decades before Cap'n Jack...

    Devlin’s Mallard Build

Just a suggestion if you need to open a deck for poured flotation. If the volume to be filled is less than a large trash can bag, do yourself a favor and line the boat with a doubled up plastic bag. That way if the foam ever needs removal, it's not stuck to the boat. Plus, one would hope the...

    Field & Stream

That's a nice cover. Glad to see Field & Stream return, I hope it lasts. Wonder if I can find it locally.

    Scary...

It left quite a hole, I guess a free falling bullet makes sense if it's a trailer roof. Knuckleheads, shooting up in the air.

    What's on your workbench? July

That's cool Patrick. One of the most interesting, well composed carvings I've ever seen.

    Scary...

Glad she's ok. Did the second floor neighbor shoot through the floor? Maybe he has a hole in his foot.
