Change To Federal Mallard Pop Goal and Impact on Seasons

I know non-resident hunter restrictions are an issue in a number of states, and several provinces. It's a death knell for waterfowling long term, the wave of resident favoring regs will only spread. At least in the US, if I'm elected King, there will be no different regulations permitted for...

Change To Federal Mallard Pop Goal and Impact on Seasons

Only one piece of the puzzle, but I believe it's clear that winter comes later and so do the migrations. Here in CT the duck season ended by early January in the old days. It used to be that ice was common on Thanksgiving and everything froze by mid December, now we're fortunate to see it freeze...

I don't know about this shotgun gizmo.

First thought was April Fools. I guess a day or two late. I like the idea of shaming after blown sucker shots. :) I can't se a shooter learning how to wingshoot with one. It may work under certain conditions, unique to each size sight, but shotgun shooting is pointing not aiming. A big sight...

    Grumman Sport Boat--HP recommendation?

Never really thought about a sportboat before. This thread has me looking. Looking almost always ends in new toys. Nobody tell my wife I'm looking. :) That quote is my way of thinking. For hp, if you need more to go farther faster, get a bigger boat and a bigger motor and stay safe.

    It Happened Again!

Very frustrating Eric. Had it happen a couple of times. Only once did I get any satisfaction, myself and a friend booked rooms in a hotel in San Antonio within minutes of each other. A short time later the fraud line alerted us to expensive purchases, destined for our homes in Bangladesh...

Weapon for Shooting Beaver at Night

I'll try a box of those just for the heck of it.

Weapon for Shooting Beaver at Night

I've never used those loads. My birdfeeder squirrel medicine is CB caps through an old Winchester bolt action with a long barrel (for a .22). Very quiet, enough so that it's difficult to hear on the other side of the house. I'm enjoying this thread. Suppressors are great, what little experience...

    Dumbest Question ever

I was keeping that tidbit to myself. :D LOL Same is true for brant and geese on the salt, and sometimes divers will stop in as well. Many of the best tiny little freshwater trickles are foundation or curtain drain outlets poking through a seawall. They aren't subject to freezing because the...

    Dumbest Question ever

Many species of ducks can drink limited amounts of salt water. There is a salt gland in their bill that separates the salt. Not positive about mallards, but I believe black ducks have the gland so I would assume mallards do as well since they're essentially the same bird. I think chicks may need...

Tis' The Season! Wood Duck Boxes Featuring The DuckHut

For those concerned with overheating, there is a comparison with various other construction materials on the link posted by the OP.

Weapon for Shooting Beaver at Night

That many beavers dispatched should make a dent in their future dam building escapades. Especially if they whacked the big ones. I bet the boys are having fun doing it.

    Trolling Motor Battery Setup Question

I've seen boats rigged both ways. I believe the vast majority of 12v motors are wired separately, I'm assuming your motor is 12V. The 24V motors need two 12V batteries rigged in series to up voltage, or a 24V battery. The total output (amphours) doesn't increase by wiring in parallel. If you...

    INTERstate? Oh Really!

Just wait a minute for the 51st star. What a valuable addition to the country. I took a peek at Samoa, but disappointment. Maybe tonights SOTU will address this outrage. FWIW, I've driven I45 many times between Houston and Dallas. There's a gigando statue of Sam Houston, about a 100 feet tall...

    Weird Tide timing

Eh, it happens. Brownie points for admitting to your better half that she figured it out.(y) I haven't looked yet, but I wonder what tides are predicted around eclipse day? Everything is lined up nice and straight for a whopper.

while this is not duck related I'm sure some will enjoy

The person who carved it has some talent. No room for error on a fixed piece like that. I wouldn't have the guts to try. The camp is on Moosehead Lake, a couple miles north of Greenville. It's in the northwest part of the state. We bought it from a couple who had the carvings done in the 90's...

while this is not duck related I'm sure some will enjoy

Greg, That's pretty cool. Did you carve it yourself? All the better if you did. I've been wanting to take on a log/stump carving project for some time. We own a camp in Maine with a number of large carvings that are getting a little old. As big of a job as it is, it won't be the same place...

Weapon for Shooting Beaver at Night

If you put in the work, I bet the ducks come back. Hopefully Tod's point is not of concern. The way the beavers typically live, is there will be a mated pair of big rodents in a lodge. The kits live with the parents until the next years litter arrives. So you might have the parents, a half...

Weapon for Shooting Beaver at Night

Nice! Duck Club Rodent Sniper School in session. Excellent to hear that the .22 is effective, I had my doubts as some of the beasts get to be as big as my labrador. Any weights on the big ones? If they haven't been culled for a few years, 70-80 pounders might be there.
