Help with Devlin black Brant III

Dwehler2024 Have you had a chance to review the Resources section where I build a Devlin Scaup? I haven't seen recent BBIII plans but Sam may have increased the hull to 1/2" ply from 3/8". I know he did on other designs...

Arkansas Opener Video from Public Land

Rick I imagine first gps and then satellite images on phones is a major reason for the dramatic increase in folks hunting flooded timber. It has never been easier to find your way around and not get lost. What factors do you think kicked off the roughly 300% increase? Technology has to be...

SJ Interesting you mention dinner for the guys in the timber. While at the launch on Saturday I was standing there in awe of the folks using the ramp. I am not lying or exaggerating when I say at least half the men hunting were obese. I don't mean a few pounds over. I mean FAT, REALLY FAT...

Arkansas Opener Video from Public Land

Rick I appreciate your Ark resident perspective. We hunted Black River and was told by someone in the industry that is where the filming occurred. Although it didn't come into play the day we hunted since we launched after 4 a.m., you can be on the river but not in the woods (see link below)...

    Anyone recognize this boat

Geoff I thought the exact same thing. The swivel vise mount is perplexing too.

    Whatcha Listening To?

Fitting song for this month. Would have posted it yesterday were I not on the road so much.

@MIKE-SID Depending on the structure of a draw it probably would eliminate most of the racing. There are other things they could do as well, e.g. hp limits and assigned launch times, come to mind, draws on high activity hunts like the opener(s) and Saturdays. I can't imagine it continuing...

    Can Anyone Identify These?

Those look just like the "Duck Coffin" built in Arkansas in the mid to late 90s.

SJ If they did away with the 4am rule nearly all the racing would end. Hole monopolizing would start, but no racing and the risk it brings. Like I mentioned the first-come first-serve rule is breaking down. Some groups barge into an occupied hole and hunt. Ever since my run-in in Ark over a...

Arkansas Opener Video from Public Land

I was on this same WMA on Saturday. It was crowded and the ducks were mostly gone. We used one of the more popular ramps and the parking lot was full, the road to it was full, front yards of adjacent cabins were full, and the overflow parking lot was full. I had to walk 400 yards to get back...

    Building a big pole barn....

Site prep for concrete in my area is a lot more than rake work. Top soil is removed and loads of gravel are used to prepare for concrete. Otherwise cracking is almost assured. Not sure of the soil you are building on but some soils are fine, some have to go.

    Building a big pole barn....

Tod Working by myself it would take years to build the outside, if at all, not to mention I hate heights so that is a large part of why I went with a contractor. Once the shell was done I went to work on the inside. Still have a few things to do but as you know it has been an operational shop...

Clarification. When I said "I was there" I meant on the same WMA. I was not a part of anything to do with the video. Sorry for the confusion. I've edited the post to prevent further confusion.

Finally, a couple of ducks in the snow.

Ed Way to hang in there and congrats on your success.

    First sneak boat

Rob It's always a pleasure to have someone new onboard and share their boat build project. Thank you and congratulations on your new boat. That is a proven design that helped create a lot of successful hunts. Nice work.

Any one else see this video? I was on the same WMA this past weekend and have my thoughts on the matter that I'll share later. For now I'm curious what you folks think of this.

    Duck/Goose Scull Boats!

Mike Why do you think scullers are a dying breed. It may make you feel better but on the lake close to my home there were no scullers until about twenty years ago. Now there are a handful. Maybe the numbers are dropping but perhaps they are also more widely distributed. I don't know. Your...

    2 man pontoon boat

Steve There is a lot of similarity between that blind and the ones used at Swan Creek WMA. I have that book and other than that picture and the Swan Creek blinds used for decades I've not seen that style anywhere else. Reelfoot has big floating blinds but they are very different. I think the...
