    Waders - The usual question

I have had High n Dry's for a couple years now and they have been great. I get out 20-30 times a season freelancing in the PNW and they have held up well.

    Motor Mount Questions

I also didn't know much when I built my boat and built the transom at 90 deg. I use wedges to be able to get the moter trimed properly. My outboard is bolted on not clamped. Looking at your transom it does not look like the mounting bracket for outboard can handle a thicker transom and wedges...

Eider Sleds?! How are they used?

I have used Scoter sleds and did them just as Roy did. Except I used a couple decoys in the front and and back of the long line instead of a crab pot bouy. They worked great. Alsmost looks like the birds are diving as you motor around them. I like the idea that Carl posted above but if you are...

    Primer for WRC?

I am in the process of carving some mallards for the upcpmming season and was loooking for thoughts on what primer to use. The bodys are Western Red Cedar with Basswood heads. I will be using Behr housepaint. Any tips on prepping the wood prior to priming would also be helpfull, I seem to get...

The old outboard is on its way out.

I got a 40hp Yamaha power trim Electric start a year ago and it has been great. For me service was key. I had an E-tec and when service stopped, their was no fixing it. The Portland area is mostly Yamaha and Mercury with one Suzuki dealer. I considered Suziki but felt with the local service and...

    Game Farm Mallards/Duck DNA Results

Being on the west coast I was anaware of any of this. Makes me think of the salmon and steelhead stocking that has diluted the wild stocks and created artificial runs in a lot of rivers with fish that were not originally from there. This doesn't seem like a good long term plan for the ducks either.

ID Help. Double ender sneak boat.

Seeing that you are in Washington and the only duck shacks that I am aware of are down at the mouth of the Columbia. It does looks a bit like these. https://bergman-decoys.com/skiffs.htm No idea who would have made it.

    You can, you cannot

In western Oregon mallards will taste different depending on where they have been feeding. You can shoot 7 mallards in the morning and some will have nice white fat (good), some orange colored fat (not good). Same goes for the divers. I will hang my birds for 3 or 4 days and it evens out the...

    Covering ugly welds

They are also considered invasive here as well. no licence is required, however that is about to change in Washington. People in certian areas are fishing for salmon without a licence and when stopped they claim carp fishing. There is a lake near me that has too many carp in it. They have...

    Covering ugly welds

Carl, It's super fun and no more standing on the cooler. I don't eat any resident fish out of the Columbia due to mercury levels, I have been temped to take a smallmouth or 2 every once in a while, but will enjoy Salmon and Steelhead. I would think a smoked carp would be tasty.

    Covering ugly welds

I didn't think about bedded fish... I have gotten into sight flyfishing for carp. There are flats on the Columbia river that you can pole along with plenty of carp to cast to. Can't wait for the water to warm up just bit more.

    Covering ugly welds

It is all finished and on the boat. The lower platform is just clamped on so it can coem off easily when changing tht boat over for duck season and the platform comes off easily with 4 hand screws if I don't want it on there if I am going bass fishing and will be fishing off the back platform.

    Covering ugly welds

I agree completely on making sure the welds penetrate and I had to grind down some and redo in few spots. I took 2 years of welding way back in high school, but it has been over 30 years since then without much practice and recently was givin a harbor frieght flux core. I understand what makes a...

    Covering ugly welds

I am building a poling platform for my boat and have welded together the uprights from steel fencing posts. In case you are wondering why I didn't use aluminum or have somebody fab them up for me, I had some laying around and I am doing this project on the cheap. However my welding skills are...
