    New Waders Recomendations

I went ahead and ordered some high and drys. They have a good story and marketing. Being direct sales is good thing for me. Avoiding the mark up for distribution keeps the cost down. Hopefully spending a little more will equal more durability which I don't believe is typically the case with...

    New Waders Recomendations

I know this subject has come up before but was looking for a fresh take as products change. I thought I was going to make through the season without having to get a new pair of waders. I was wrong. Yesterday the rubber on the both boots cracked. I am looking for some breathables in the 200-300...

    Number of Decoys

My thoughts are 7 or 70. There are to many spreads with 12 to 30 decoys in them. Birds see these spreads all the way down the flyway and I feel that they just avoid spreads of this size after being shot at enough. I typically will use 2 or 3 mallards and a handful of widgeon. Plus the smaller...

    Looking for a puppy

I have come to terms with the fact that my lab, Bell, is getting old and this will most likely be her last season. I am planning on getting a pup after the season. Looking for a smaller back female lab. Dopes anybody have any good recommendations for kennels in the northwest. Bell was from Wind...

Face Masks (not the Covid kind)

I used a mesh one for years and then switched to the buff type when I got glasses. I cut a hole for the nose and mouth to keep my glasses from fogging up. I like it better because I can easily pull it down over my neck when I don't need it. Just ordered more on amazon as backups. It doesn't get...

    Smoked Goose?

I haven't smoked birds in a few years, but here is what I remember. I would usually brine in a pastrami birine for a few a days. I do remember for sure that skin on is waaaaaay better. the more fat the better. Keeps the meat moist and delicious. I would smoke with the skin side up. I can't...

Legal time app for android - anyone have a good one?

I am not sure how it works where you are at but in Oregon there is a table in the regs for shooting times. At the beginning of the season I copy it out of the PDF into Word and shrink down to the size of a credit card and laminate it.(cover it in packing tape) I make as many will fit on a sheet...

    Keel repair

Thanks for the link Eric. Don't know why I didn't think of Raka that's who used way back when I built the boat! Your right on spreading it upside down. Hoping to keep the mess to a minimum both on the ground and on me.

    Keel repair

The keel on my boat after 15 years has had all of the epoxy worn off of it. When I built the boat I had put Gloveit on the bottom and the rest of the bottom is still in good shape. This weekend I crawled under the boat on the trailer and planed down the keel so it's ready for some epoxy. I am...

    Herters decoy line storage question.

I also hunt varied water depths due to tides and pour my own anchors similar to Bobs. I have 6' of line on them. Some days only a few inches on line may be needed on others all 6 feet. This system works very well me and where I hunt

    Alaskan Yellow Ceder

I was at one of the local lumber yards here and came across 2x10 rough cut Alaskan Yellow Cedar for garden beds. Some of the boards were pretty clear and was wondering if anybody on here has used it for carving decoys? I am just about out of carving wood so any any input would be appreciated.

    Seasons just keep ending

Tod, I order the book and it just arrived. From just flipping through it looks much better than Rytek Kutas's book. It's not a matter of if I try making salami its more a matter of when. I have some reading to do but want get on it soon before it starts to warm up. I like to do my sausage making...

    Seasons just keep ending

Thanks Tod. That's a slick setup. I typically do 10lb batches and have considered converting my minifridge. I was always under the impression that a humidifier was required as well to keep it from case hardening. Not being a chest I don't think cracking the door is a good idea. The minifridge...

    Seasons just keep ending

Hi Tod, I turn almost all of my ducks in to sausage as well. Usually Toulouse, Linguica, and Italian and snack sticks. Have been toying with the idea of salami's for a long time. What do you use to control the drying of sausages? I have considered converting an old fridge but just don't have...

    Shotgun recomendations

Charles, I had to replace the ejector a few years ago which is why I am also thinking it may not be a bad idea to replace some other parts as well while I am at it. I am comfortable doing the mechanical work and considered Rustolium as an option but I think I am going to go with the Cerekote by...

    Shotgun recomendations

Thank you all for the suggestions. I was totally unaware of Cerakote as an option and think that is the route I am going to go. I just like my 870 to much to let it go. I have found several gunsmiths in the Vancouver/Portland area that do it. Now it's just a matter of choosing who to take it to...

    Shotgun recomendations

So after 26 years of service I think its time to retire my old 870 special purpose that my dad got me when I graduated high school. Its down to the bare steel so bad that rust is a constant problem that I am facing now. I have considered jsut hitting with rustoleum and calling it good, but it's...

    cell phone management...

To speak on the waterproofness of new phones. My family was rafting down the North Santiam river and my wife lost her phone overboard. A few weeks later I received a phone call and somebody who had found her phone in about 3 feet of water on the side of the rapids after they had tipped there...

    cell phone management...

Another vote for the Ziplock bag. That is what I used for years before I got a waterproof phone and yes I have tested it. I used the freezer bags if I had them around since they are thicker and the touch screen works through the bag. cheap and easy.
