    Question for the boat gurus

Think he's leaning the boat, port side low, starboard high.

Question for the canoe paddling brothers or sisters

Check on whitewater forums. Lots of whitewater open canoe paddlers shape their own foam saddles that are glued into the boat. Not sure what they use for foam, but you should be able to find something you can easily shape with a knife and some sanding.

Hitting some upper Iowa trout streams this week.

That's the one. I think they maybe have lodging too.

    Hurricane Francine Teal / Blackbellies

You guys get early season birds moved by hurricanes. We get late season birds moved by northeasters. Most of my best hunts here have been being out just ahead of incoming NE storms. What's perfect is to still be out as the snow is starting but before it makes boating and driving stupid.

    Grumman Sportboat Repaint/Power/Field Testing Update

Thanks all. It's a little small, but any bigger and cartopping would be out of the question. It's the boat I should have had in my 20's and 30's when I was strong and before experience began to cloud the notion that I was immortal and should just "send it" (as the youngsters say). LOL!

Hitting some upper Iowa trout streams this week.

I'm still kicking myself for not getting in an Iowa/Wisconsin/Minnesota Driftless trip while my sister and brother-in-law were living in Chicago. Storied trout water out there, celebrated by none other than Aldo Leopold in some of the Sand County Almanac essays. One of my Maine fishing buddies...

    Battery Build with Plans

Didn't someone (Steve Sutton? Worth?) have a long post on here with photos of a battery or sink box hunt in Nova Scotia or maybe New Brunswick? I'm thinking in my early days on here, so maybe ~15 years ago. I tried a quick search and could not find it.

    Grumman Sportboat Repaint/Power/Field Testing Update

It's been a long summer, but I've finally had some chances to play with the Grumman Sportboat after a repaint and powering with a 6 HP Suzuki 4 stroke. First--the paint. Not much to say. Lou's FME in dead grass green is still good stuff. Took two coats to cover, after a lot of sanding and...

    Wader update

Even the high end waders have fit issues. I was a loyal Patagonia Rio Gallegos wader customer--loved them, went through two pairs over about 8 years, which given my use more than meets my standards. When I tore a hole in the 2nd pair that was not repairable, I ordered a new pair of the exact...

    Waders - The usual question

Another mid-priced wader that comes with good reviews is Dryft. https://dryftfishing.com/product-category/waders/ $300-400 range. I have not used them, but a fishing/hunting buddy bought a pair 2 or 3 seasons ago, uses them hard, and has nothing but good things to say. Of waders I have used...

    X

Used plenty of AA #8's on woodcock, but like a lighter gun to get on the little buggers. I splurged on a Franchi Instinct at about 5.5 lbs in 20 gauge and haven't looked back. Can't hit a damn thing with it on clay targets, but it comes up fast to get on doodles as they rise and before they...

    Double Ender restoration

I'm no wood working expert--I'm just a guy who re-glassed one old sculling boat-- so pay more attention to comments that follow from those who are actual experts. Screws vs. nails: what did the original builder use. If nails, you'll probably need to get a clench nail. Plywood vs planking...
