    Boston Whaler 13 Resto-Mod

Once the bottom was painted I was ready to load back onto the trailer. The trailer received new bunks and carpet and bunk brackets while the boat was upside down. In my typical impatient fashion, I decided to try and load it with just myself and a good friend. Thinking I could put the front onto...

    Boston Whaler 13 Resto-Mod

Once the transom riser was installed, the fairing was done, and lots and lots of sanding, I could finish painting the rest of the interior. The interior got a total of 3 coats. First prime coat, then I painted where the soft sand would go, then sprinkle on liberally, once dry, sweep excess off...

    Boston Whaler 13 Resto-Mod

Because I wanted to run a jack plate, and I bought a long shaft motor, I had to fill in the transom notch. The classics pre 1972 I believe, had 15? transoms. I decided to make my own rather than buy one from the few companies offering them. They?re pricey and as waterfowlers, we like to diy. I...

    Boston Whaler 13 Resto-Mod

Next up was the interior. I sanded all the old non skid and did a sample of a product called Soft Sand Rubber Particles. The product states it is compatible with most marine paints but oil based wasn?t listed. Planning to use Lou Tisch?s FME, I did a sample section. Fairing continued after...

    Boston Whaler 13 Resto-Mod

Eric, yes as others stated it can be a problem. With these smaller hulls you can do a feel test and try snd lift it. I?m sure being a 69, it had a little water intrusion around the drain holes. But for the most part, upon any of my inspections in the holes I drilled and filled it was pretty...

Thanks Greg. The boat is done. I?ll post more pics when I get some time.

    Boston Whaler 13 Resto-Mod

I started by identifying and soft spots. Delamination from the foam core. I drilled a grid pattern, filled with gorilla glue, and epoxied the holes. And any bad chips, imperfections, etc got some fairing compound. But I did not go crazy. This will be a duck boat after all. Threw...

    Boston Whaler 13 Resto-Mod

A couple years ago I acquired this 1969 Boston whaler in a trade. I always liked them and thought it would be a good platform for an all around boat, if that is such a thing. When I was a kid, my father would take us fishing in my grandfathers 13 in the South Jersey backwaters. So it just...

    Non skid additive for FME

***UPDATE*** After almost a week cure time, it seems the Paint cured quite a bit and nicely sealed in the soft sand. It is durable, but I?m sure not as durable as different urethane based paints. I expect it to last a decent amount of time before needing significant repairs.

    Non skid additive for FME

Thanks Steve. I will look into it. Examining it more, and thinking about it, I can?t really see how the soft sand particles would cause the paint to not cure. If I remember, like tod stated, the FME takes a while to cure. I believe my Sneakbox was around the same level of cure at this point in...

    Non skid additive for FME

Thanks Tod, what other options are you speaking of? Just curious. Looking at all options. Don?t necessarily need dead flat. I already bought the FME but just curious.

    Non skid additive for FME

After first seal coat. Will get one more and then cure time. 12 hours after seal coat, it doesn?t feel super solid. I can scrape it off with my finger nail, but I think that might be the FME taking time to dry.

    Non skid additive for FME

Hey guys. Been a while. Working on rehabbing a classic 13 whaler. I bought FMe from Lou and am going to re do the non skid parts of the deck. I learned about soft sand particles from boatworks today on YouTube and was intrigued. The website for the company says it works with most urethane...

NDR: fiberglass wet out failure on canoe

Are you after adding strength to the hull? Or just cosmetics? Also what will you be finishing with? Paint? Gellcoat? Nothing? If going for strength then I?d use 1708 with Epoxy. It will bond better to the wood and be strong but might require some fairing to cover the weave. Woven cloth can...

    BB3 question

Thanks for the input guys. Exactly why I?m asking the question. Dave, good point however I won?t need batteries, well all be wearing our life jackets, most likely sitting on throwables, and the rest of the safety stuff I imagine can be arranged to accommodate seating. The floor is something I...

    BB3 question

Toying with the idea of it to accommodate myself and my two youngsters in a couple years to sit and hunt out of it. Was considering the bb3 over the scaup for the smaller size and weight. And to use my 15 horse Suzuki. If I have to push it, or drag on a bank, I?ll be pushing the boat alone with...

    BB3 question

I recently purchased plans for the BB3. Can the bulkhead at the front of the cockpit be eliminated and replaced with knees to extend the cockpit to the flotation chamber?
