    Flying Layout Boat!!

I know how you feel. I was going down the highway late one night and looked into the rearview just in time to see the bow of the boat rear up and go off the trailer. We drove through the median strip and u-turned back to the scene as quick as possible. We always keep our motors unlocked. When it...

With 4 guys and a dog she will jump right up on plane and go. That being said, this was on the river near my home, about 50 yds wide and usually very calm. I have had it in about 4' rollers, some breaking a little on top. I would not carry that big of a load in that. The bow will cut through the...

Tom, Mine was always a tiller steer set-up. When I got it, the boat had been sitting out in the weather for many years. The seats were rotten and the paint had oxidized to nearly white. I removed the old benches and cleaned, primed, and painted the hull. I replaced the benches and was able to...

One more thing. When we are going on big water I like to use 2 boats even if it doesn't seem necessary. This paid off last week. Three of us were going out from our cabin and even though we would have all fit into my Dad's 16' we decided to use both boats. On the way out he hit a crab pot and...

I'v been caught is similar conditions and while it isn't fun the boat will get through it. You just end up taking a lot of spray from the V-hull cutting the waves. With the 20 on it mine is quick enough that I can hurry out of those situations if I see it getting bad. I clocked it on the GPS at...

Hello Tom, welcome to the site. I am running a 14' Starcraft with a 20 Merc as well. What kind of capability questions did you have?

    Interesting build-Houseboat?

I know that there are plans available on line for a houseboat similar to what you are talking about. I have seen one in person. The boat was about 18'-20' long and about 8" wide. The hull looked like a double ended flat bottom jon boat. There was a small deck fore and aft with a flat top cabin...

    Pocomoke Sound

Anyone one on here know who had the BBSB out on the Sound Thursday afternoon (9-17). It looked like they were going from Ape Hole Creek back to the ramp at Rumbly Point and taking a pretty good beating as they went.

    No Hunting on Sunday's????

I don't mind no Sunday hunting since it gives the birds a rest. I don't see anything wrong with hunting on Sundays where it is allowed either. Here is my question for those of you who want to bring Sunday hunting to their state. What would you give up to hunt on Sunday? Would you give up two...

    No Hunting on Sunday's????

The length of the seasons is controlled by the feds. You get the same number of days with or without Sunday hunting. Without Sunday hunting the season is just spread out over a longer amount of time. Based on a 90 day season, that's almost two weeks more hunting time.

Do you fish from the Goliath as well? Over the summer we saw one similar to it going through the narrows a couple of times.

Real nice looking rig that you have. I guess you are trying to save some gas by not dragging it back and forth from Ellicot City.

    Kent Island, MD

I was driving around Kent Island this weekend and saw what I think was a Bankes Boat with a DHBP sticker on the stern. I was parked at Skipjack Landing Marina. Good looking boat and I was just wondering who it belonged to?

    Decoy Anchors

Scott, I feel the same way that you do. I just don't see the point in spending money on something that I can make myself. I cast my own weights and they suit me much better than ones that I could buy in the store, even if they are the same. I use a strap mold for my ducks and for geese I use an...

    cross bow

If you are considering buying a new crossbow you might want to look at the Stryker. I think that it is made by Bowtech. A buddy of mine just got one and it seems to be a pretty nice bow and is a good bit faster than any other one on the market right now. You use a hand crank to cock it so there...

    long line minimum weight

If your melting lead to make the weights just use the smelting pot as a mold. Once you have the desired amount of lead in the pot, remove from or turn off the heat and use a coat hanger to hold a copper loop in place until the lead sets up. I made a set for my crabbing trotline weigh about 20...

    Cleaning Aluminum pontoons

Zep, the commercial cleaning supply company makes a product called Zep-a-lume. It will cut the most stubborn crud off of aluminum. I am in the bleacher business and we use a thinned mixture of this to clean aluminum seats. I have also seen it do wonders of the wheels and fuel tanks of our road...

    Source for fiberglass

Thanks for all of the replies. I think that I will just use 6oz cloth top and bottom. The plans are the Busick plans and seem to be pretty sturdy.

    Source for fiberglass

I just got the plans for my layout boat. They call for 10 oz X 60" fiberglass cloth. US Composites only lists the 10 oz cloth in 50" widths. They do have 6 oz in 60" wide, but I am not sure if this will be strong enough. I tried Raka but their website was not working. I figure that someone here...
