Lespedeza Question

Has anyone who has grown lespedeza for boat camouflage ever have your plants grow tentacles like the ones in this picture? I have a small plot of land in my backyard and only a small section of my plants have these tentacles.

    Outboard Motor Covers

I've been looking online for some type of motor cover that I can use to camo my two small Yamaha outboards (15hp and 25hp), but I can't find any that fit the bill. Does anyone know where I can find some? Thanks! David

    Devlin Broadbill for Sale

I'm putting my Devlin Broadbill up for sale. I built it in 2012. This vessel is in great condition. Comes with Yamaha 15hp two-stroke motor with less than 20 hours on it, galvanized trailer, spray dodger by Diane, tiller handle extension, and hard cockpit cover. Asking $3500. It's a great one...

It's funny how duck boats come into our lives

Jode, This is what I chose to use based on the brain trust of this site -- Beckson Diamond Texture 8" Screw-Out Marine Deck Plate (wholesalemarine.com). Grace and peace, David

It's funny how duck boats come into our lives

Zane, I was thinking of doing the same. I used to paddle whitewater kayaks and those flotation bags were tough. I'm also considering using playground kick balls to fill the back two chambers on the BBIII. Water will inevitably find its way into these compartments, especially if you have your...

It's funny how duck boats come into our lives

Here's my newly refurbished BBIII. Lots of hard work and elbow grease. Thanks to everyone on this site who has helped a fella like me get back on the water! More improvements to come, like installing a dodger and some low-profile flapper boards for a blind. Suggestions are always welcomed...

    Devlin Broadbill and material selection

Overall, I have enjoyed my Broadbill. It is small, super stable, and disappears like a dream. I was in my mid-40s when I built it and hunted solo a lot, so I didn't mind it being a "one man, one dog" boat. Now that I am older and almost never hunt alone, I decided to restore an old Black Brant...

    Devlin Broadbill and material selection

Overall, I have enjoyed my Broadbill. It is small, super stable, and disappears like a dream. I was in my mid-40s when I built it and I didn't mind shooting from the floor and it being a "one man, one dog" boat. Now that I am in my early-50s, I have restored an old Black Brant III. Being able to...

    Devlin Broadbill and material selection

I built a Broadbill back in 2012 and followed Eric's advice to a tee. Here's a link to my build if you'd like some pics and comments: Duckboats.net: Main Forums: Duck Boat/Hunting Forum: North Alabama Broadbill Build Looking forward to seeing more about your build soon...

    Grass rail question

I used some synthetic material to replace the grass rails on my Devlin Broadbill. It worked pretty well but it wasn't as stiff as I would have liked it to be. Scarfing two pieces of mahogany sounds like a good suggestion. I may choose to do that in the end. This is what I found online about...

    Grass rail question

I?m making new grass rails for my BBIII and my local supplier doesn?t have mahogany in a 15? length. He does have red grandis and clayed poplar (aka ?Viking Wood?). Would either of these woods work well for grass rails? If not, what other woods would you suggest? Grace and Advent peace, David

It's funny how duck boats come into our lives

Here's a picture Jamie Day (the original builder of my BBIII) shared with me from several years ago. He was hunting the Tennessee River when he came across two other Devlin boats on the river. What's the chance of that happening these days! Grace and peace! David

It's funny how duck boats come into our lives

Good morning, Eric. I think most of the water seeped into my flotation compartments through the navigation light inserts. I also think some came in through where the grass rails were attached to the boat and where the fillet joints met the bottom of the side clamps. With a new layer of...

It's funny how duck boats come into our lives

Hey, Bill! I'm currently running a 1977 Johnson 35hp on my boat. It's in the shop right now with some issues with the clutch dog assembly, so I've been looking at newer 25hp motors on Facebook. What are you using to power your Black Brant? As far as I can tell, this boat has spent most of...
